Re: Please help troubleshoot origin of drivetrain noise!

So... I pulled the motor and trans, replaced the clutch disc with a stock Aisin disc, filled the trans with Redline 75w-140NS oil and put it all back together in 6 hours! While apart, I checked the flywheel bolts torque, cleaned the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces. The disc that I took out has ...

Re: Please help troubleshoot origin of drivetrain noise!

When I installed the second rebuilt trans is when I installed the new Megan Racing mounts. One of the original mounts (new, Anchor brand) was softer than the other and I thought the engine and trans were moving around. The sound is more of a vibration felt through your butt and feet. The car has no ...

Re: Please help troubleshoot origin of drivetrain noise!

jondee86... I think you nailed it! This is what I was thinking and dreaded. It looks like I will be re-installing the stock flywheel and will add some 75w-140NS Redline gear oil!

Thank you for the info and links!

Please help troubleshoot origin of drivetrain noise!

I apologize in advance, this may get a bit wordy… I have a 69 Triumph Spitfire that I swapped in a 4AGE and T50 trans. The engine has been built up with a massaged head from OST (OST-33). The engine runs great and just friggen rips from 5k to 8k! The T50 was “rebuilt” by a local trans shop, with par...

Re: Carbureting the 4AGE essentials

Okay, I just made some adjustments on the MSD. I initially had the dizzy locked out and a "retard curve" set at 25deg retard from 500-1500rpm then slope to 0degs retard at 4000rpm. It ran good but lost power at the upper end. I set the MSD to 0degs flat line and then set my idle timing to ...

Re: Carbureting the 4AGE essentials

IMG_3414 (640x480).jpg What does an advance curve look like for these engines? I have a mildly tuned big port 16v(10.8:1 cr; Poncams; 40mm Webers) running a MSD 6al-2 with a straight line from ~10deg BTDC at idle to max advance (~33) at 4000rpm. It runs great, but I am looking to optimize the curve...

Re: What is Max safe C.R using 91 octane Calif gas?

Yoshi,
I decided to go with Tomei Poncams because the MG 265 would be more efficient with a higher CR than I can/want to build. Also, they are more readily available and widely used.
I found a supplier that sells ST single springs for $7.06 a piece and free shipping...

Re: What is Max safe C.R using 91 octane Calif gas?

Thanks, all for the info. I know I will be at the edge for safe CR. I do have an AFR gauge installed to help tune the Webers and monitor the leaness. I also have programmable MSD ignition I can dial in some retard if I have a specific RPM issue. OST - I decided to go with the Poncams and will be usi...

What is Max safe C.R using 91 octane Calif gas?

I am building a 4AGE big port engine NA with Arias 10.5:1 pistons, Weber 40mm DCOEs, Poncams. I have a calculated (by OST) CR or 10.8:1
Is this a safe compression ratio using 91 octane Calif gas?

Yes... I searched! Alot about CRs but not talk of what octane is required for various builds.

Re: Forged Piston to wall clearance

I am having Arias pistons installed in my block as we speak! The sheet from Arias says 0.004". The machinist doing my block says 0.002 - 0.004" is normal, 0.006" max.
Let us know if you get info from Toda.

Re: Question about my build and using larger valves (Superte

I am using the stock distributor maxed out at ~37degs with a MSD 6AL-2 programmable ignition controller. You can program in up to 20degs of retardation. Right now I have it programmed for max retard from 0-800rpm and fully out at 4000rpm. I will fine tune it when I get my engine rebuilt. Here is a l...

Re: Question about my build and using larger valves (Superte

Yoshi,
I would like to use your MG 265 cams. You mentioned upgraded valve springs. Are the single, Supertech springs sufficient? I would like to stay away from the higher rate double springs to reduce stress and wear on the valve train.

Re: Question about my build and using larger valves (Superte

Thanks OST, Yoshi said the same thing... The cost out weighs the benefit. I will just clean up the combustion chambers and give it a good 3-angle valve job. Should I get new valves? How about upgraded springs? Should I get a complete set of Supertech valves (OEM size) with upgraded springs, retainer...

Question about my build and using larger valves (Supertech).

I am building a 4age for street use and have a couple of questions. I have been in contact with Yoshi at Matrix Garage but would like some additional input. I have a big port, 7-rib block, 1990 engine that I will be rebuilding with 10.5:1 CR pistons (Arias). I plan on using Tomei Poncams (264) or Ma...

Re: Carbureting the 4AGE essentials

My first post... I've been lurking around this forum for over a year. I am installing a Blue Top 4age and 5spd trans into my 1969 Triumph Spitfire! At first I was planning on using the stock fuel injection system. After looking at the complexity of the FI system and having to install a high pressure...
