Re: Question COILOVER exp! Help!

What sort of driving do you want to do with the car, and what's your budget? Having driven on all of those setups listed above (besides Fortune Auto) I found the Shockworks setup best, the damping is just worlds in front of everything else for ride comfort and outright grip. They are more expensive,...

Swapped my RunFree front bumper over to Zenki Levin to make it a little more street friendly, and cleaned up the new 14x7's and bolted them on.

Re: Forged Piston to wall clearance

The last set of Toda pistons that I put into an engine came with a spec sheet (as all pistons should), they stated for an 82mm bore to use .0765mm (basically .003") clearance.

The car you linked is a full Group A spec car running on slicks, what sort of tyres do you want to run? 14K front will be useless without at least a 225 slick and some serious aero.

Drove it for the first time in nearly a year. Loving having a lot more power now too, 282 cams running perfectly on the standard MAP ECU.

Re: 4A 7A Clutch Question

The diameter of the flywheel itself between 200mm and 215mm set ups is the same, it's only the friction face diameter that's different. You won't lose or gain anything going between the two with power, torque or inertia. Just have more clamping area using a 215mm clutch and flywheel. Also no differe...

Hastings also make a ring set to suit the smallport, suits most 4A-GE engines with the standard ring configuration (1.2mm, 1.5mm, 2.8mm). The Hastings part number is 2C4684.

Re: What's a good performance coilover setup?

The Shockworks kit I found more comfortable on the softest setting than the original springs and TRD inserts that my car came with. It really is damped that well, and tuned with a combination of real on-road tuning and bench testing. I've had them in my car for the last 3 years now, and am still yet...

What sort of lift does your cylinder head start running out of flow at, and what CFM figures if you're aware of them? Also what compression ratio has the engine been built to? Without all this info and more we're all really just guessing.

Re: Do's and Dont's on installing metal HG

That surface finish is no where near smooth enough for an MLS gasket in my opinion, it might hold for a little while but it could be so much better. The finish you need to get to is almost like a mirror finish, how yours is currently is quite coarse. MLS gaskets are coated anyway, they don't need an...

I wouldn't drill and tap one you were going to use again, they aren't the strongest to begin with and it if fails in operation it'll make a decent mess of things. When I can't get them off I drill right next to the key-way all the way through, then one sharp crack with a hammer and chisel to crack i...

Re: Carb Ques. Spacers vs. adapter

The phenolic spacers have other functions besides heat transfer, they also help with absorbing vibrations that aerate the fuel in the fuel bowls. The heat transfer doesn't apply so much in EFI setups as it's not heating the fuel, just the manifold. Also if you're going to use one of the T3 small-por...

I would stick with the KA24DE, the extra torque would make a huge difference. They are a pretty decent engine, and take to boost really well.

They will run, far from ideal however. If you really wanted to run a 20v head with the 5A-GE stroker kit send the 5A-GE piston and a standard 20v piston to JE/CP/Wiseco etc and say you want the 20v crown on the stroker type pistons with the shorter pin height, In short you can get away with it depen...

They are fake, on genuine Bride seats the tilt adjuster knobs on the side are recessed into the seat further into the side brackets. On these there is no recess for them, just straight up and down. Also the bride logo in the gradation isn't centred and is on an angle.

If there's water inside the cylinders there's not a lot of point in trying to save it with dodgy fixes, just pull the engine out and tear it down and replace what needs to be replaced.

Which valve size are these to suit? By the way it was worded I thought standard size, but it never pays to assume. Shame I'm using oversize valves, this really is the best crown shape otherwise.

Re: Compression: What is acceptable?

A blown head gasket gicing low compression is generally between two cylinders, being so far down in just one cylinder looks like valve sealing to me. Considering it's a blacktop which is an interference motor, I would say it's possible it has a bent valve or valves in that cylinder. Does the reading...

175/50 is a **** size on a Corolla in general, let alone on a 9" wheel. If you want to run 9's either flare the metal guards so you can fit sensible sized tyres without massive amounts of negative camber, or get bolt on flares. It won't steer as nice as it would with narrower wheels anyway, do ...

To do 9000+ rpm safely, I would look into getting the crank lightened and balanced pretty finely also if you're going to use the standard Toyota crank. I would also make sure whoever is building the engine pays very close attention to bearing clearances, as they are critical at those revs. I have ha...

I've used the T3 shifter for 3-4 years now of daily driving and lots of mountain runs, and not once have I been able to shift faster than the synchros can keep up with. I would be looking at what grade and brand of gearbox oil you're using, as well as how long your using it for rather than shifting ...
