WTS: Project Mr2 pair 4AGE AW11 1985 1986 PRICE DROP

For sale: first generation AW11 toyota mr2 project car pair. $1000 OBO In 2013 I purchased the 1986 mr2 as a running, driving car. A coworker of mine was supposed to do the body work on it and paint it, in trade for an ae86. He replaced the quarter panels on it, drove it until he blew up the engine,...

Re: 4AGE 16V TRD Solid Lifters vs 1SZ-FE solid lifter

The 1sz lifters don't even come close to bottoming out. You would have to be running absurd cam lift before it is even a possibility. By my measurements the 1sz lifters (#26) are .900 (just under 23mm) and the 4age measures .872 (or right around 22mm) WITHOUT A SHIM!!!! With a shim (.115, average of...

Re: Bigport to Small Port Compatibility

Welcome! Those wagons are totally RAD!!! It should be a blast with a 4ag! when you say "red top" are you SURE you mean smallport? BP and SP both came with red lettering. There should be NO TVIS logo on your intake and a oil drain from the back of the head to the block. Starter should be ok...

Re: 4AC Head on 20V S/T Block?!?!

The 4AC head has 32-33cc chambers vs silvertops 35-36. The AC chambers could be deshrouded, which would help flow and keep your c/r manageable. If this is going to be a long-term fix, I would look into portwork, a better intake mani and a reground cam to bring back some of the fun. Good luck!

4ac head bolts are fine to reuse. Whats your timing advance set at? Also did you check the crank pulley? sometimes the outer rings comes loose from the inner, and it will make your timing look way f3@ked.

and I would suggest 'Gimp' for photo editing on the basis that it is free, and works OK for cropping, but it is a bit awkward for much else.

Check out "4ac powered". There is a lot you can do to the 4AC for cheap that will make it more enjoyable to drive. I would Enjoy the car while you improve the important parts of the car- Reliability, suspension and the driver!

Re: The best 4-AC upgrades...

For me though it all comes down to the $/gain ratio. I usually say 4/HP ratio because that is what is important to me but I respect that others have other priorities. Then why bother with the 4A at all? the only one that has decent power is the 20v or supercharged, and for that $ you could put in a...

Re: 16v Rod bolts

Take em to a machine shop. You could use a large vice or a press to do it yourself, but you need to check the bearing journal for roundness (Dial calipers are NOT accurate enough for this!) after you are done because it will often be distorted by the process. MS usually charges $40-$60 to take the o...

My old sr5 would have almost NO pressure on hot days with 10w30. 15-40 was much better but would still dip low and 20-50 made it feel sluggish, and boarderline high pressure on start up, but had good pressure on the really hot days. When the 7ac went in, It had a different oil pump, and had ideal pr...

Thanks for posting the chart, it is VERY informative! Was this test from a small port or large port? Its amazing how little flow is gained with higher lifts on the exhaust, even with the port work. It just levels off by 7mm. Would you think that this is because valve size? Considering that cams run ...

I Couldn't find a whole lot of info on twin cams with split durations except this http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=313042 Oldschool v8s usually do more duration on the exhaust so this may not be totally on point for us, but to some point an engine is an engine. Re: 4age 16v split cams setup

Correct me if I am wrong but I was under the impression that longer duration and lift on the intake side created more torque and mid range (possibly at the expense of peak HP) and was more commonly done on the 4ag. it appears that TRD used this for some of it's rally setups. I think that the dsm guy...
