Re: 4AGZE Injectors Not Firing

Aw man, I hate these problems. To be honest I've been doing the same with my 1990 Toyota pickup. Different issues though, the thing runs but has CELs. Pain it the tailpipe! I feel for ya. Could it be a fuel issue? Good pressure until the engine runs? Like a restriction, fuel filter, pinched line, we...

Re: 4AGZE Injectors Not Firing

From memory on my car before I changed the engine to 4AGZE, the resister pack bracket was bolted underneath the ignition coil bracket so they were earthed at the same time. I have seen that, I have also seen the resistors grounded with their own bolt. Basically any place you can access a bolt to gr...

Re: 4AGZE Injectors Not Firing

The resistor pack does not need to be grounded. It is just 12V in and 12V out and there is no reason for grounding. OK, so I was shooting from the lip there. When the circuit is not active it is 12V in and 12V out, but when it is active it is more like 12V in and 3V out due to voltage drop across t...

Re: 4AGZE Injectors Not Firing

The resistor pack does not need to be grounded. It is just 12V in and 12V out and there is no reason for grounding. https://i.imgur.com/xJWoyLP.jpg That makes absolutely no sense. The ECU is grounded to the chassis and the injectors, in order to complete the circuit, must be grounded to the chassis...

Re: 4AGZE Injectors Not Firing

What about the ground wire that goes from the front of the engine to the chassis? So many people forget that one. Black wire with a yellow tracer with a black plug. Typically bolted to the front engine lifting hook.

Re: 4AGZE Injectors Not Firing

Another thought, I had a similar issue with a VW squareback I had a long time ago, long time ago, the transistors burned out. That took a long time to figure out. Open the ECU and inspect the components, look for anything obvious like blown capacitors or melted transistors or resistors. Look for cor...

Re: 4AGZE Injectors Not Firing

Our engines injectors are a 'batch fire' type of injection, it's why there are 2 injectors per ECU out. Typically cylinder 1 and 3 fire together then 2 and 4, since those are the cylinders that fire close together. So, when the injectors ground leads go to the resistor, which is 2 resistors in paral...

Re: 4AGZE Injectors Not Firing

Ooohh, cutting the earth wires and just jumping the ECU to the block is BAD. The ECU is grounded to the block, but along the way from the block/manifold there are tap points for the various sensors for their grounds. You'll need to splice your harness back together. As for the painting of the earth ...

Re: 4AGZE Injectors Not Firing

Sounds like an issue I had with one of my AE86s. Check the fuel circuit in the AFM. Try jumping the fuel test circuit at the diagnostic port. If the engine runs by jumping the fuel circuit then check the ground at the AFM plug. This is the ground bolted to the manifold, top of the runners under the ...

Re: 7AG Block, Is there a best?

As for pics of the oil routing I barely described, I never documented that set-up, figured no one would be interested. But if you can imagine, I drilled and tapped the hole for a screwed plug and gutted the pressure relief, installed a male flare fitting. Just bypassed the pressure galley in the blo...

Then I have no idea what the dealer is doing, but the hole was round, on four occasions. They didn't just keep giving me the same gasket, I still have them all.

Re: 7AG Block, Is there a best?

That wasn't advice from Yoshi, I've done that myself, before Yoshi found out about it. My problem is finding a reliable source for the Aisin gasket. My latest install blocks the oil outlet completely routing the oil out the front of the pump assy. through an inline pressure bypass-filter-cooler back...

Re: 7AG Block, Is there a best?

On the oil pump hole alignment. Welding and drilling is unnecessary. Aisin makes a gasket with an oval hole and a little porting in the block and pump housing is all that is necessary, just a port matching. No sense in taking a chance on warping the oil pump housing with the heat associated with wel...

If you have the funds, and a GOOD machine shop, have the oils squiters from a 4AG installed.

Re: 7AG Block, Is there a best?

The latest model possible. Supposedly there is a 7A block that has oil squiters, I haven't seen one. Look to the '98 Celica as the corolla was not a "performance" engine(don't see how it would matter here). I can give you a 'go look at this' thing for your build. If you are using the 4AG o...

Nissan 6 cylinder ignitor

For COP install. I have a Nissan 6 cylinder ignitor. I had this for a Megasquirt ECU project that is now gone. It has 6 separate ignitor circuits, comes in handy as it carries 2 spares in a 4 cylinder application.

Re: Rough edges around combustion chambers

Oh yeah, a smooth combustion compartment, head and pistons really reduces the chance of detonation, especially at higher compression levels. A steady hand and a Dremel can get the job done. Do a bit of research to see just where and how much work needs to be done. Don't go ape **** on it right out t...

Re: Smog exemption???

As far as the loud exhaust goes here in Cali, They don't whip out a Db meter, they just say your exhaust is too loud and give you a Ref ticket. Funny thing about that is the exhaust is tested at idle and 2500rpm, when the exhaust is actually quiet. You get pulled over when you hammer the throttle, i...

EGR, not talking about removal, talking about function. Used items will eventually run out. Re: Smog exemption???

As far as EVs? I would like to have one, but when I commute 200 miles a day, not exaggerating that, sometimes more, and the only cars that have that type of range cost $100K, and the battery pack costs more to replace than a good build on my engine. I have a few reservations on them to say the least.
