Re: Seat woes

had that seat in my 86. it should be a good fit for you. wedge brackets would prob place the seat high. you want the 'low style' side mount brackets (2 separate pieces). i had memory fab and bride fg which were fairly similar (nams is basically the same also). memory fab could go slightly lower on t...

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

Interesting. Thing is I used spring isolators AND needle bearings - above and below spring - on both diy coilover setups. (still using them.) They help a little, but with high spring rates and camber plates its a marginal improvement with compliance. Im sceptical the shock valving could make the rid...

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

totta - thanks for the info.

bgrs - the fa and annex kits still tempt me even though i know the caveats. Having the independent adjustments is VERY tempting. 2 questions:

1. What are the front/rear shock stroke lengths with each kit?

2. Which of the two is more compliant from your experience?

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

Having those points tie into a roll cage would be best, but roll cages suck on a street car - I speak from experience - and theyre dangerous. Watch this vid and pay attention to how they reinforce the tower in the wheel well and inside the car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqWDjAWxvKI . Again, al...

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

totta,

Are you using the long dampers? How much total travel do they have from full extension to full compression?

Any idea how the dimensions on the short version differ?

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

Was considering the group 4 case with escort rally billys last time based on your recommendation, but at that time I already had somewhat fresh oem replacement billys and a nice diy coilover sleeve kit - decided to use what I had ... always wondering what if though. Next time I want to do a shorter ...

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

Im guessing a lower ride height on some of the modern rally cars you're seeing could be the result of tuning for certain conditions or class. It could also be because chassis technolgy has improved increasing rigidity - in theory more aggressive springs/shocks can be used. use 40mm Bilstein dampers ...

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

^That made me think of something else. Regarding the 'coilovers' with oem style rear... the springs probably need to have a moderate-to-high rate. Notice how short the springs are? Its a matter packaging to fit the adjustable perch. The ride height would be high if a longer spring was used, which ne...

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

I wish a manufacturer would have balls to offer a coilover with shocks that have more travel. (Most current offerings seem to be in the 4-4.5" range.) That way one could realistically use lower spring rates. Just have the shocks revalved. I admit its very nice to have the independent height and...

Re: 20v bt refresh/swap

^haha touche. The plot thickens... im also adding a light flywheel. (The main difference is that the STI was a daily.) Also, short ratio 6 speed with 4.77 would prob suck. I agree that it would likely be nice with an appropriate r&p. Had a v1 mfactory gear but never installed and ending up selli...

Re: 20v bt refresh/swap

I dont mind the t50, and i have 2 that are problem free. Ive also never broke one, but I dont drift and the car doesnt really see track. With 4.77s the gearing was perfect on the mountain back roads when I was in SC - wouldnt have wanted a shorter 5th gear. However, interstate driving at 55 mph+ doe...

First post updated!

Figured out the hosting/image resizing. What a pita (makes me feel old). Many more steps than the old photobucket... Thanks to scalpel, oldskewltoy, and jondee86 for the assistance.

Also cleaned up thread so it didn't read like an image hosting how-to...

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

Talk to Grant @ BGRS.... personally(MY opinion)... anything over 6kg/4kg in spring rates is fanboy With all due respect to bgrs - i believe he recommends annex or fa (what he sells) with 7k front, and 4.7k rear for street. I'd love to see him chime in. In all fairness, an ae86 will never be comfort...

^this guy knows a thing or two. prob nobody better on the forum for suspension advice.

if you want to be low and/or need to dial in ride height you will need coilovers. you could also go custom (what i did), but be prepared for lots of trial and error.

Re: New Annex Coilovers or...Old faithful TRD Blues etc..

Im curious to hear the thoughts of others on this... The 2 setups bgrs offers (garage annex and fortune auto) seem to be the best off the shelf units in the USA, *on paper at least*. T3 is good too, the casing anyway - I had their old oem converted short casing and it was very nice. I cant speak for...

also... sr5 axle has drum brakes while gts has disc. further, one can count the # of bolts that hold the third member (aka pumkin) to the axle housing - gts has 10 bolts and sr5 is only 8

Re: Rear end help GTS with SR5 DIF???

^ to build on whats said in that link... the diameter of the axle at the splines is roughly 1mm less on the 1985 gts vs the 1986/87 gts. it sounds like you have a 1985 axle in your car if you bought 1986/87 specific lsd, and the diameter of your axles are slightly too small to fit. you either need t...

Huh, are there 2 versions of the sport, or is it not a sport? I noticed the color of the paint is different (darker) than the one i bought new in 2011.

60 mm should be good for a turbo 4ag
