According to my old Toyota OEM Parts Booklet, Coupes and Hatches has DIFFERENT part #.

Hatch: Cylinder & Key Set Back Door Lock 69055--12160
Coupe: Cylinder & Key Set Luggage Lock 69055-12180

It is very difficult to pin point the issue from your description that could be both mechanically or electronically. Mechanically means it could be simple as worn out outer switch knob (plastic) without the metal insert...etc. Electronically could be faulty switch, shorted ...etc. My suggestion for ...

If I own AE86 today, replacing engine to 13B is definitely NOT an option. I would like to keep it ORIGINAL as possible that would be same engine type: 4A-G. AE86 = 1.6 piston engine is my opinion as well. But, if someone has 13B powered AE86, I would love to sit behind the wheel for a test drive.......
