OEM 80s Toyota stereos with tape decks

Looking for an OEM Toyota stereo (1980s) with a working tape deck. I've had terrible luck with the last couple I've tried: one worked great except for the tape deck, another had a working tape deck but could barely hear the sound out of three of the speakers. Not trying to mess around with anything ...

Are the rear windows from a hatchback or coupe? I need a drivers-side (LEFT) hatchback quarter-panel window.

Re: AE86 CARPET CHIOCE

I got the 3974 - Toyota Corolla '84-'87 Molded Carpet 2 Door (Color: 8935-Steel Blue Plush Cut Pile) My car is a blue/blue two-tone, so I got a lighter blue carpet to match the dark blue interior. It requires more cleaning, but it looks pretty good. You'll need a really sharp knife / good pair of he...

Re: Aftermarket Gauges

I installed a very cheap (under $5) voltmeter off of Amazon (some retailer out of China) in the spot in my dash where the aftermarket cruise control used to be. A little plastic cutting and clear RTV, and it almost looks like it belongs there.

WTB: AC pipes (high and low)

I need the high and low side AC pipes (the ones with the connection ports). My schrader valves were frozen in place so tightly they broke in half when I tried to take them out.

Thanks!

Based on this question, please don't buy an AE86.

Re: Knuckle arm removal

I used a ball joint fork. Hammared it in until there was enough leverage to pop the ball joint off of the knuckle. Similar to getting the outer tie rods off of the knuckle arm, but easier (IMO) becasue I didn't mushroom it by trying to get it off with a hammer.

Re: a couple of questions for the pros

I second what jondee86 said. If it's your DD, find another 4AC and rebuild it. If you don't know what piston rings do or what EFI is, you really don't want to be messing around with any kind of swap. My first big engine project was a 16v 4AGE rebuild. You'll be amazed at how much you learn over the ...

Re: The best AE86 cup holder. Ever.

Nice touch to add a cup holder for the rear passengers.. Way better than an ash tray for the rear passengers! It's totally accessible from my driving position, and my elbow doesn't hit it. It won't work for huge drinks, and it's difficult to reach while driving, but I don't really want to enc...

In my experience, they barely work with a hatch. I had to use the arm off of my old lock with the Solex to get it to work. Then had too much trouble getting the Solex clip onto the lock and ended up just putting the stock lock back in.

You probably want to get new hose from an auto parts store and make your own. Not sure what the measurements are, but they should be able to help you cut your own if you bring in the hose.

I say keep it as stock as possible. Tasteful upgrades only. If you find yourself lusting after flashier wheels, swap those hubcaps for Supra/Celica caps like so: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=7206

Did you change the lines out when you replaced the climate control? My airmix cable is smooth as silk after this upgrade. I have a new heater valve cable on there, but I'm starting to worry about the condition of the valve itself, so it's next on my list.

But seriously, OBX makes a TRD 4-1 knockoff. It's sturdy but not the most carefully made piece, and it shows. (I have one.) How to tell if yours is real, besides any identifying marks on it... you already bought it, right?

I fixed it yesterday! Not the most difficult project. 1. Order the cable 55909-35030 from Toyota. http://jeff.supramania.com/corolla/cableupgrade/airmix_end.jpg 2. Cut off the white mounting plastic and make the notches deeper, as shown by Jeff Lange: http://jeff.supramania.com/corolla/cableupgrade/...

"well out" meaning it doesn't line up with your crank and alternator pulley? If so, you probably just installed the pulley backwards.
