Re: alternator is overcharging
Some general info here... https://club4ag.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=11437&p=76095#p76095 The charge light plays no part in the operation of the alternator. All it does is tell you that the alternator is working (or not, if the light stays ON when the engine is running). Similar informat...

Ahhhh.... sense wire is important. Regulator can't regulate correctly without it. See here... An alternator sense wire, often referred to as a "sense" or "reference" wire, is a wire connected to the battery or electrical system of a vehicle that allows the alternator to monitor t...

Re: alternator is overcharging
Your alternator will have a 3-phase rectifier so usually six diodes, What you are looking for is a "spike" of higher voltage in the rectified output, caused by the breakdown of one of the diodes. Not all multimeters will be capable of detecting the spike, but if you have a digital meter yo...

Re: alternator is overcharging
That can happen when you have a bad diode and it lets some AC leak thru. Check to see
if you have any AC ripple at the battery terminals when the alternator is charging.

Yes... all true. When cars moved on from McPherson strut and straight axle suspension designs, stuff under the car did get more complicated and fragile. But independent suspension front and rear improves the ride and handling, so that is the way that the motor industry has gone for all their upmarke...

Picked up one of these nice little wagons for a DD. 2002 model with 100,000km (60,000miles) on the clock. JDM model, RWD and runs a N.A. 2JZ-GE with 5-speed auto. I haven't had time to check yet, but some of these came with a Torsen LSD. That would be a bonus if it has one. https://i.imgur.com/Pf0hT...

Difficult to be specific about this without a bit more information... like, what igniter you actually have on the car. There a couple of possibilities depending on the year and market. Some have one plug and some have two plugs... a picture of yours would be helpful ;) That aside, if the engine runs...

Once you get the engine running, does it function normally apart from not being able to hold an idle ?? Can you drive the car, and if so, does perform as usual... no loss of power, missing, jerking etc ??? The tacho signal comes from the igniter and is derived from the back EMF spike generated when ...

Re: 4age 16v car keeps trying to start without key
So I'm dealing with an issue where I fire the car on then it keeps trying to turn over after i've let go of the key. Just to be completely clear, you are saying that when you crank the engine, the engine starts but runs very weakly. And when the key returns to the ACC or OFF position, the starter s...

Re: Rear springs
BC Racing AE86 BR Series Type RA apparently. No idea on compatibility with OEM springs.
However it looks like BC make adjustable perches for various vehicles. So it would be worth
giving them the ID/OD measurements of your springs and ask if they have a perch that would suit.

I've always been a fan of the "one car that can do it all" school of thought. And admired the guys who build the sleepers... the Wolves in Sheep's clothing type of thing. The ISF fulfills that description pretty well. I've pushed it hard on a track day and am happy with the way it performs...

Re: Carbureting the 4AGE essentials
The 40's work well for the 4A-F. But the intake ports are maybe half the size of a bigport 4A-GE so there will be a noticable difference in air velocity there, and that's why I was wondering if 45's would be a better match. I have never played with twin-choke carbs myself, so I'm no sort of expert....

Re: Carbureting the 4AGE essentials
Sizing carbs or throttle bodies is mostly dependent on what you intend to use the engine for, and what other mods have been made to the engine. Everything from 40's to 48's have been used on the bigport head, in cars ranging from near stock to fully built racecars. If you were happy with the 40mm So...

Rear steer aka Roll steer, and interesting enough to force me to consult Google, from where I gleaned this information... AFAIK the gears are there to allow the car to meet EPA standards. On the ISF first gear would be useful if you wanted to pull a plough, gears 2 thru 6 are close ratios to keep the engine on the boil when having fun :) Gears 7 and 8 are both overdrive gears so that the car can return decent economy w...

Re: Compression reading of 260
I'd suggest seeing if you can get the cranking pressure under 200psi... around 185-190psi should work with 93 pump gas. There are a lot of variables involved, and some engines will run fine at pressures over 200psi. But high pressures push the engine closer to detonation so best to start low and wor...

I don't remember ever seeing any specific values for the AE86 MAP sensor. When I used the factory sensor on an aftermarket ECU the calibration was basically connect the sensor to the ECU and power it up. Learn the sensor value at 100kPa(abs) and then pull a vacuum on the sensor to say 25kPa(abs) and...
