Sayonara baby !!!!

After 34 years of always having an AE86 in the garage, I am done with paying homage to the last and the best of the RWD Corollas. For me there is no further development possible on this car... it now has everything I ever wanted in a road driven AE86 and it has reached the endpoint that I dreamed ab...

Re: Garage Star vs T3 Baby Daddy brake kits

Nothing wrong with having more than you need... if you add more grip and more power in the future it will come in handy :) These little cars are a hoot to drive hard and bigger brakes will dissipate heat better, so that gives you a bit more of a safety margin if the track is tough on brakes. Re: Garage Star vs T3 Baby Daddy brake kits

Stock engine car does not really need bigger brakes. Stock rotors, decent pads and fresh high boiling point brake fluid will de the job all day. I use a full set of Hawk HPS (high performance street) pads on stock rotors and they are an easy step up from standard pads if you want a bit more stopping...

Varies a bit with model and market, but this diagram for a USDM GTS suggests that you got a three tittie vacuum fitting that had one hose for the FPR and the other two outlets were capped off. https://static.megazip.net/M/be1/be1fdce52f14be7ae9cb6e5a5c9208ec.png Markets with MAP sensored engines typ...

Re: conversion revisited

Now that I know you are mating a RWD gearbox with FWD engine I may be able to be a bit more helpful. The 20V starter normally mounts under the intake manifold, while the auto trans mounts to an engine that has the starter on the exhaust side. That means your starter will be on the exhaust side of th...

I shall take the standard interweb approach to these questions and offer an opinion based on no actual knowledge or experience with the topic. Generally speaking, auto and manual versions of an engine use the same starter motor. And since both transmissions bolt to the same block with the same bolts...

Re: AC Idle Up Connection Plug

You either have a vacuum leak or the throttle plate is not closing 100% (same thing really). If you press down on the throttle arm as if to close the throttle more, does the rpm drop a little ? It may be that the throttle stop screw needs adjusting. Correct adjustment has the throttle arm hitting th...

Re: Gonna start a build and see where it goes ===> TWINSCREW !!! :-p

Had a chance to give the car a run on Sunday and thankfully we got thru the day without any rain. Had no problems. Could get around the corners a bit faster if I had tires with more grip, but a set of sticky tires cost around NZ$1200. And for the few times I would use them before they went hard, it'...

Re: AC Idle Up Connection Plug

Hmmmm.... if you have no coolant running thru the auxiliary air valve to heat the wax capsule, the valve will stay wide open all the time. This normally will supply enough air to raise the idle to around 2200rpm. Don't know why the A/C idle up port acts the way it does ? However, you must have a dec...

Interesting :) The 6-speed ECU must be mapped to activate at slightly different
load/rpm points due to the different gearing. By some quirk of fate this happens
to match the needs of your conversion... well done and good to know !!!

Re: 4AGE 16v no injector pulse

The EFI Main Relay is the one you pull when you want to make sure the engine
won't run. It controls the power supply to the ECU. There should also be a 15A
EFI fuse in the underhood fusebox... check that one as well.

Re: 4AGE 16v no injector pulse

Should be fine then. I'm wondering why you don't get some fuel related action from your engine. Usually, even if the main injectors are not firing, the cold start injector supplies enough gas to get the car to fire up on closed throttle. Only runs for a couple of seconds and then dies as the cold st...

Extract the 10-pin plug from the ECU and test from the ground pins to a chassis
ground. Make sure the ring connector is bolted down to the intake manifold.

Re: 4AGE Blacktop 20V IACV

I feel that you are treating the symptoms rather than finding the cause of this problem. On a 20V ALL the idle air should be passing thru the ISCV. If the engine can idle at 2000 rpm with closed throttles, then either the ISCV is not closing or the throttles are not closing fully and there is excess...

Re: 4AGE Blacktop 20V IACV

Remove the filter from the fresh air side of the ISCV and block the end of the tube with your thumb. You should be able to regulate the idle speed by varying the amount of "blocking" you are applying with your thumb. Tptally blocked the engine should either stall or drop to a very low idle...

With the 10 pin ecu plug disconnected and all the injector plugs removed you should still get 12v to one side of the injectors through the resistor box right.... that is what feeds 12v to the injectors right? Re: 4AGE Blacktop 20V IACV

First up you don't want your throttle cable to be tight. The throttle arm must return and rest on the throttle stop to make sure that the throttle butterfly is fully closed when you are off the gas, The cable itself should have just a little bit of slack so it cannot hold the throttle arm off the th...

Cycling on the fuel cut... engine speed above around 1700 rpm and closed throttle.
Back the engine speed down to 1500 - 1600 rpm and it will stop doing that :)

Yeah... I'm not familiar with exactly how the USDM venting works. My (Euro spec) car doesn't have a charcoal cannister. There is just a loop of vent tubing that rises up above the tank and then drops down with a little filter on the end. So basically vent to atmosphere for those markets that didn't ...
