Finally found my eight six
After years of bad timing and availability keeping me from owning an eight six, I finally scooped up an 87 gts coupe. It was advertised as needing a clutch and I managed to get it at what I thought was a reasonable price at the time, I have since found out that it needed quite a bit more than a clutch. I have done my fair share of work on cars that I've owned over the last ten years, from dsm's to about every water cooled vw and even the occasional miata in there, and am in the process of replacing pretty much everything barring the actual motor and internals (as of right now anyway), and just thought I would come on here and introduce myself before I'm completely done with stage one of its resurecction.

Nice find and welcome!
Don't we all wish the people selling our cars to us practiced full disclosure.
Keep us updated on the work done.

Congrats on the purchase and getting all that work done. What have you done to it so far?
Hope all your work pays off.

Re: Finally found my eight six
I got the car with the tranny and driveshaft removed so I started with the rear diff seals and worked my way forward while the replacement clutch and flywheel were en route. Needed a water pump and timing belt as well which is when I found the crank pulley was cracked, cool $400 for one of those at the dealership, now I got the clutch and flywheel all in but I'm missing clips for the shift fork. I'll try to get as many pictures as possible of the whole process but my photographer (girlfriend) got a new job and is less available to sit around and take pictures of me playing with my cars.

Got the tie rods done and the tranny back in with the new shift fork, now just to rewire the starter and alternator since they were just ripped out of the car apparently, then just reinstall the radiator and hoses and I should finally be driving it.
Re: Finally found my eight six
Wow that looks like a pretty clean engine bay, you even have part of the original intake.
Keep up the good work.

Re: Finally found my eight six
The rest of its just not in there at the moment, finally got her started but it looks like the air flow meter is shot. Found one on eBay for 60 bucks should be here Monday or Tuesday and it'll be done with stage one of the restoration, I'll probably put everything I do after that in a separate build thread. It'll have to be daily driven for a while until my girlfriends Evos transmission gets sorted out since she's been driving my other car while the Evo is down. But as soon as the Evo is back in commission, the 86 will most likely get some variety of boost.
Edit: if anybody knows where I can get the top two pieces of the timing cover plastics, looking for oem not the clear eBay variety, it would be appreciated.

Re: Finally found my eight six
So it finally decides to rain the last two days really making it difficult to get a good wax on it but here she is now mechanically perfect, $2090 of parts later....not including the coils.

Re: Finally found my eight six
Thanks for the kind words, a lot of work but definitely worth it by far one of my most rewarding projects to date. Now I just need to get the bumpers and rear trunk garnish thing repainted and I'll cruise it like that until I figure out what the motor plans will be, also want to find more info about the six speed swaps someone else posted about in another thread.

Re: Finally found my eight six
I know! The only other eight six I've seen down here was one of the techs at desert toyota but I don't think he's on the forums. We should caravan to some of the SoCal events for sure.

Don't tell me that now haha that would have been awesome, to be honest I was kinda impatient and usually went for the quickest way to get what I needed this time around instead of really looking around for good deals. But Herb has been a huge help since then helping get quality stuff at a way better price.
