I think the front half of the ds is the same on both models. So you may only need the rear half technically. I'm not certain on this aspect so you may want to get confirmation from someone with more experience, but just a thought.

thanks again deuce.

got the oil pick up, rear main seal housing and seal installed along with the oil pump and oil pan installed too. i decided to go a little crazy with the oil pan color since it isn't really visible from the top and i had a lot of blue left over and it is engine heat paint so it should be ok with the heat from engine and exhaust.

decided to go ahead and attach the motor mount brackets and alternator bracket. also put the oil filter on to protect the surface of the oil filter bracket or whatever you wanna call it. also attached the transmission mounting brackets to the block. note to self: make sure to bag and label all the bolts and nuts next time. i kept thinking "oh i'll remember where this goes" . no i have kept running into delays and having to order parts and wait etc. next thing i know i'm like "where are those bolts?" lesson learned.

changing the gaskets on the intake manifold i noticed under the gasket between manifold and throttle body there is this hole that was covered up by the old gasket. this hole goes to the breather tube connected to the valve cover. why would it be blocked off by the gasket?

in my new gasket kit i have 2 types here....one like the previous and one that has a hole there allowing it to breath. which should i use? why was the previous gasket blocking the breather hole? thanks

You need to have the hole in the gasket so that the engine can breathe.
Follow the port and you will see it connects to the cam cover breather nipple.

yes i saw that and don't know why the previous would have it blocked off or why this would even be an option in the first place.....

thanks for the advice, i will take it.

How can I tell if I need an air flow meter or mass air flow meter? thank you.
I try to use the search function on this message board but it always says " The specified search backend doesn’t exist." No matter what I put.

The oem gasket has a hole for the breather. Some aftermarket gaskets might not. The previous owner probably didn't notice the hole on the manifold (or the lack of corresponding opening on the gasket).

The gts uses an air flow meter.

Search doesn't work since the site got revamped...

well it's been a minute since i did my last update. i have been waiting to get my cyl. head back from the machine shop. i got it back finally and got to work. they did the valves for me because i've never done valve shims style and i'm only familiar with rockers and they gave me a good price. i got the headgasket installed and torqued the headbolts and camshafts. in the following pics i just layed the valve covers on top to keep dust from getting in overnight and to take some cool pics. yeah their gold but i kept the blue 16v to keep some familiarity. my wife painted the lettering. she's quite proud of herself. me too. enjoy.

hey veryone long time no update.....i recieved my transmission back from what was supposed to be a check up and let me know when what it needs before they do any work. However they decided to do the work anyways which consisted of new bearings and all new seals throughout the transmission. They then wanted $750 from me to get my transmission back. It was a difficult situation because my friend is buddies with the owner and I was basically going through him in order to get this work done. So they gave me a "discount" and charge me $400 instead. I guess if it needed the work done then that is cool However I would have rather been known in it in advance before they did any work. to top it off when my buddy brought the trans back, it was missing the clutch release bearing and a pin to hold it. also it was missing the boot for the clutch release bearing arm. what a joke. anyway, i just hope they did a better job on the inside. they cleaned it up real nice for me though and painted it...... now I have to order the parts from Toyota and they are on backorder until the beginning of May. :(

while i'm waiting for parts, i decided to drop the fuel tank to figure out if it has already been swapped for a gts fuel tank. what do you think? SR5 or GTS? Judging by the fuel lines coming out of the tank I'm going to go with GTS.

Bought some steel tubing from autozone and made my own clutch hard line. Not difficult at all. Here is a video of the process.

I'm sure most of everyone here have been dying to know what has happened to the title situation with this AE86 (sarcastic) . If you recall when I first bought the car the title has not been renewed from the previous owner and it was still registered to the guy that the previous owner had bought it from. Well to make a long story short all has been resolved and the guy I bought it from renew the title under his name then properly sold me the car on the back of that title. I received it and went straight to the tax collector's office 2 then transfer the title to my name and my state. Now I'm just waiting. I was able to get tags and registration.

It is a much better feeling now working on this car knowing that it is all mine and nobody else's. Haha. For a minute there I was a little stressed out.

A little update on the build. I'm currently waiting for this welder to weld my exhaust manifold because it has a crack in it. When I receive it back I will then be able to move on and finish up the engine bay with the distributor and coil and remaining exhaust system. Then hopefully before too long after that I will be able to crank it and start it up.

Anyways just wanted to give a little update on the situation and my excuse for not giving more updates on the car lately. Please subscribe to my YouTube channel for more videos and updates and you will be able to see the build all the way through the GTS conversion and Bodywork, paint and so on and so forth. Just click on one of the links in the message above.
