Help or advice with power steering pump and alternator bracket

Hello. I have a 4agze in my ae86. The factory bracket for power steering, AC, and alternator are all together. I currently have the bracket that only holds alternator. So I'm asking, is there a bracket or a way to modify the one I have to add my power steering pump back?

So essentially I want power steering and alternator only on the exhaust side. Thank you

IIRC the JDM GZE bracket has all 3 are mounted on the exhaust side of the engine. No other brackets should be needed (take off all the original brackets). I assume you know that you will have to move the alternator cables to the left side in an AE86. Also, in the AE86, I believe the alternator pulley may contact the tension rod or sway bar. I've heard of people getting it to work but not sure if it require any mods.

Post some pics and good luck!

Edit: corrected autocorrect

Ok thank you. I know the factory setup (from top to bottom) it goes power steering, A/C, alternator... the bracket I have now is only for alternator (mr2 aw11 bracket I think if I'm correct) I'm just curious if it's possible, to use alternator and only power steering. Keep the power steering at the top and move the alternator to the middle location? (In place of A/C)??

This is a solution offered by SQ Engineering that mounts the alternator low on the
exhaust side of the engine...

Perhaps if you could use the top part of the 4AGZE "multi-bracket" and the SQ bracket
for fixing the alternator to the block it might work. Tensioning would just be by using a
lever and then tightening a bolt... same as the stock AE86 alternator.

On second thoughts, I think you are heading into a minefield :) Apart from hanging the
alt and p/s pump off the side of the engine, you have to get the correct offset so that
the alt can use the outer row on the crank pulley. By pure fluke I was able to do that with
the AW11 non-a/c alt bracket and a stock RWD AE86 alt. But I didn't have a p/s pump
to worry about

I wonder....if I were to get the offset correct, could I run a single belt for crank, alt, and PS all in one? I know crank and alt is a 5 rib belt and the PS is a 4.....is it possible to run a 4 rib on those 3 pulleys??

This bracket keeps the p/s pump up high. So maybe you could use this and a low
mount bracket for the alternator. One that allows the alternator to swing down low
enough to fit under the p/s pump ?

Image

Pretty sure I did a mockup of a low mounted alternator and used the bottom bracket
from a 4AFE (which is the bracket that the SQ Eng lower bracket is based on). I had
to make my own top bracket and tensioning was by levering the alt out and lock the
bolt up (same as original AE86 alt).

I think I might of had to take a small amount of metal off the AE86 alt to get it to fit
in the 4AFE bracket. Should have a pic of it somewhere but can't find it just now.

Hopefully not too off-topic... but how many other A family engine accessory brackets will line up using 4A-GE accessories? I think in the 4A-GE family, the RWD is incompatible with FWD?

On a topic-related note, the AE92 GT-S also has the power steering pump mounted near the dizzy on the exhaust side. I don't have one to know for sure how much room is below it, though. The AE92 AC comp sits below it and the alt is on the intake side.

For my purposes, I was hoping to make a custom alt bracket for the intake side (using a FWD 4A-GE alt) so that I could use my 4A-FE (AE92 gen) AC compressor & bracket on the exhaust side, and the 4A-FE harmonic balancer. I already know that the 4A-FE AC comp will not bolt up to the MR2 (non-GZE) AC bracket that I have sitting around. I can't remember how off the FE AC & bracket was to the FWD GE crank pulley. I tried once...

I do know that the MR2 (non-GZE), FX16 GT-S, and AE92 GT-S all use the same intake side alt bracket setup. At least according to the Toyota part numbers.

I'm curious if the 20v stuff is more likely to be compatible with my 4A-FE AC comp. I guess I could just go crazy and buy every A family bracket that comes along for sale, and try every imaginable combination :?

Nice pic of the PS pump....that being said...will that fit on the 16v 4age?

Pic of the SQ alt bracket. As you can see it has been stepped at one end to resolve
the problem of the alt bracket and the engine mount sharing the same bolt.

And a pic of the AE92 4AGE smallport p/s bracket without the p/s pump.

And a pic of the side of an AE92 4AGE smallport block showing the bolt locations.

Since as far as I know all the FWD double row pulleys have the same offset, you
should be able to make this work with FWD components. From memory, I'm pretty
sure that some people have been able to fabricate "turnbuckle" type adjusters for
the alternator to provide both a stay and a tensioning device. That's where your
ingenuity comes into play :)

Generally speaking, FWD and RWD components do not play well together. The RWD
crank pulley has a bit more offset than any of the FWD pulleys, so the RWD p/s cradle,
water pump pulley and alternator pulleys and brackets are different from FWD ones
The golden rule is all FWD or all RWD. And the AW11 non=a/c alt bracket is made to
suit the AW11 specific alternator that has an external regulator. There is no alternator
with internal regulator that will bolt straigh in... they will all require a bit of grinding
to get the alt to fit into the bracket so you can get the long bolt thru.

do you know where I can get a 20v power steering pump and bracket and if it will bolt up to the 16v. Thank you

So I found a 20v BT power steering pump and bracket. I've got some ideas to fab it to aw11 bracket. I'll keep everyone posted.
