15x7 +40 4x114.3 Slipstreams on 86 GT-S

Postby CloudStrife » Thu Jan 04, 2018 1:30 pm

Hey guys, I'm not good with tire stuff, and I bought a set of rims that I just love for the price and weight.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/15X7-40-SLIPST ... 2749.l2649

I knew I would need spacers, and I test fitted on the front, and it sits too close to the inside, almost hitting the strut.

So I was wondering what you guys would recommend?

I was thinking about these:

Using this:
http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator#

and inputting the stock 14" Intra wheel spec of 6j +21 against yours, you need 32mm of spacing just to match the inner wheel to strut clearance.

Thank you for the quick reply sham.. That is a massive spacer, no?

I've seen 30mm spacer: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Phase-2-30MM-B ... 0005.m1851

But 32mm seems like a unique number. Off-the-shelf spacers seem to run in multiples of five...

If you can fit those rims without them binding on the struts you are doing OK :)
For OEM style RWD 7" rims on an AE86 the offset would usually be in the positive
5 to 10mm range. You are at 40mm positive, so yeah, the rim is about 30 to 35mm
further inboard than ideal. If you use a 30mm spacer you should be fine, as the
extra 2mm is not going to change things worth a damn.

If you plan tp have the car low (top of the tire tucked) it would pay to experiment
with some kind of temporary spacer so that you can fit the rim to the car and check
how much clearance you have to the guards. Check front and back before you decide
on what spacers to buy. You don't want to find that you have guard rub once you
drop the car down on a new set if tires !!

Thanks Jondee, thats what I ffigured. I'm just gonna return them though and keep my ugly Rewinds, I don't like running spacers personally.

Good decision. I'm not a fan of spacers either, although I did have a set of 25mm
spacers that I used to make a set of 5-1/2" +27 OEM Toyota rims look better on the
car. Now I just use 6" or 6-1/2" RWD rims and forget about getting them flush :)

A little off subject, but whenever I'm in the market for wheels, I use this website a lot. I'm more of a visual type of guy.
