How to put a 4age into a 1987 Toyota Corolla SR5?

Postby arvin429 » Wed Feb 22, 2017 11:52 am

I bought a 1987 Toyota Corolla SR5 for a couple hundred. It was a good deal so I said why not. It s extremely rare to find an ae86 in New York. A GTS ae86 is even harder. I m not looking to change the rear end. I just want to put a 4age into my SR5. Just a 16 valve. What do I need? List everything needed for the swap. Also anything I can reuse on the SR5 would be great to know. I want to reuse all my sr5 harnesses in my car except for the engine harness. I also heard of people reusing the sr5 gas tank and fuel lines. I also heard of running an external pump. How do I do that? How do I wire in a Pump relay since I am keeping the sr5 harness? How do I wire in the 4age into the sr5 harness? How do I use the old sr5 fuel lines as fuel return lines? Please any help would be great. I tried looking for answers to all of my questions but I got no help.
Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!

I usually wouldn't say anything

but

you can literally google sr5 to gts conversion ae86 and find many articles/threads and 20v swap etc and even a list of everything...

I don't want to convert my SR5 to A GTS. All I want to do is put a 4age into my SR5.

the MAIN difference between sr5 and GT-s *IS* the engine, and supporting systems (fuel, electrical, control...)

So reading through those howtos on how to convert the SR5 will give you the information that you need. That information will give you the context on what you need to do, and what you need to change for your own individual project.

Since no two cars are the same, and no two builds are the same, do not expect cookie-cutter solutions to every single task. By learning the info in those other how-tos, you will learn how the different systems integrate in the car, and then be able to answer those questions.

since the 4AGE uses a different ECU than the 4AC, and the ECU is located inside the car, you will need to modify your existing dash harness. So I recommend you get a wiring diagram for both versions of the car (available from searching forums and google), and decide what wires you want to connect where. Do I know where those documents are? Nope, but I have searched and read them before. So I am not going to give you a direct link, when you should be able to find that on your own.

bottom line: RESEARCH IS PART OF THE PROJECT and should be done by the person doing the project, otherwise that project ends up a pile of uncompleted junk in a garage that you sell to someone else for dirt cheap just to get rid of it because you're frustrated and have already bought a Cruze because it's already the best car ever and doesn't need modification, and helps you get to more places to find more pokemons.
