HELP! Axle bearings wont go all the way in!
Im trying to rebuild my axle bearings on my gts diff and i pressed the new ones all the way in on the axles with the retainers and all but when i go to put it in they just wont go back in all the way like they are supposed to.... The teeth on the pumplkin and axle meet and everything but the bearing doesnt sit flush on the diff housing... i hit it with a rubber mallet but cant seem to go in... its about half an inch on both sides. Can anyone tell me whats wrong? are you supposed to press the bearings all the way in on the axle?

The bearings should press on until they are flush with the step down on the axle flange end. 1/2" out means it sits wrong somehow.
Grab the axle and wiggle it around, you may have gotten through the carrier bearing adjuster but not into the splines of the carrier/lsd.

Pic of how it would have sat before you pulled it apart...
