School me on the 3SGE Swap

Postby Engmus » Thu Jun 18, 2015 6:33 am

Greetings Guys,

Im considering the 3SGE Beams swap, as it seems to be a pretty stout 2.0 N\A motor. I want to keep this in the Toyota Family so no F series honda motor suggestions thanks.

Im really NOT interested in cutting my trans tunnel or frame to make this fit. So what I can't determine is if I can get a transmission that will stick out of the stock shifter hole, and bolt to the rear of the 3SGE engine.

Thanks!

You'll need to cut the trans tunnel. The shift lever is not in the same place. That said, a BEAMS powered car is pretty epic!

I took a guy for a ride on Laguna Seca last month and he had a camera on his helmet, so you can get an idea what it looks and sounds like. I was driving a buddy's car.

Re-using the 3SGE 6spd, I know you must cut the tunnel, Im curious if another transmission can be bolted up to the 3S, or the bellhousing, to create a 5spd swap option , or anyway, to make the beams work without the cut.

If I must cut, i'll probably scrap the 3S idea, and move back to my previous thought process.

Thanks!

peep this guy's worklog (not exactly the same since it's a 3sge going to a 5sgte). it might give you some insight - http://hachiroku.net/forums/showthread. ... sgte+build. he's on c4ag as bnicolas and he's selling this car in the classified section too. looks like he used a w55 transimission with custom bellhousing and driveshaft.

if you can find a shifter from Leen(the guys who brought the adaptor for the 6speed for the 4age.)
Im guessing they are now out of biz, since their site is down now.

here's a pic:

Or you could do a mod like this guy to relocate the shifter on the 6 speed: http://www.aeu86.org/forum/showthread.p ... 31&page=51
