It all started in 2008, I was walking through a parking lot and spotted a 1985 ae86 and offered a woman cash on the spot. Fast forward to 2010, I had to park the car in a field for personal reasons and it was left there until 2018. I towed it from North Dakota back to Illinois and she is being brought back from the dead.
I'm swapping in a shortened Ford 8.8 tru-loc rearend, doing dual calipers, reworking the suspension, fixing all of the chewed wires, rebuilding the injectors and having a one piece driveshaft made. Those are the short list items.
The next step will be a motor swap, transmission and engine management.
If you're a purist walk away now.

Hi and welcome to Club4AG A Ford rear end portends something a bit different
from the usual 4AGE 20 valve transplant. I'll be following your thread with interest.

Re: 1985 GT-S Resurrected from the dead
All right, let's get started. First thing I noticed was a bunch of mouse crap, a few chewed wires and cut plug wires. After I got all of these items fixed I drained the gas, and tried toflushed the fuel system. Unfortunately there wasn't any fuel pressure. I dropped the tank and found the culprate. I completely flushed the fuel system as well. I bought a Tre 255lph fuel pump for $69.99 and swapped it out.

Re: 1985 GT-S Resurrected from the dead
Ummmmm, still no fuel.... I pulled the tank and I didn't have the plug seated all of the way. The compression was not an issue the lowest cylinder was with in spec 160 175 175 190. when I dropped the tank I decided to just put in a fuel cell I had laying around. Until it's up and going I converted a 2 gallon gas can into a temp cell. I checked the compression to make sure I wasn't doing anything for no reason. I will be replacing the lines to make sure e85 won't be a problem in the future.
The thing keeps cranking even when I don't have the key in the start position, I'm guessing it has a sticking relay. Any help would be appreciated. I'll get a video of the first start up soon.

Re: 1985 GT-S Resurrected from the dead
The starter solenoid on the AE86 gets 12V directly from the keyswitch. The wiring
diagram for the 1985 does not show a clutch switch, but if you see one under the dash
there should also be a "starter relay" somewhere. This relay only allows 12V from the
keyswitch to reach the starter solenoid when the clutch is depressed... it does not
itself have a 12V source.
So if the engine keeps cranking even when you have your foot off the clutch pedal
and the key is not in the crank position, chances are the keyswitch is broken.
Now you have a reason to install missile switches

Re: 1985 GT-S Resurrected from the dead
the key switch may be broken, but a relay is not a pass through, they can definitely stick. I just wasn't sure where it was at. The voltage from the key either goes to terminal 85 or 86 terminal 30 may have constant power or be a dedicated ground then 27 and 27a are switching terminals and one of them is grounded. There are dozens of ways to hook up a relay. I'll stop boring you with electric tech stuff. I'll test it tomorrow. Thank you for the info.jondee86 wrote:The starter solenoid on the AE86 gets 12V directly from the keyswitch. The wiring

I'm getting there, I shortened the axle, grabbed a second short axle, and transferred all of the mounting points.
