Hybrid to fossil burner - 84 Sprinter Trueno (AE86)

Postby Dasilva » Sun Jan 22, 2017 2:12 pm

Thought i would share this years project.

Bought the car a few months back but it just arrived in the UK 28th December.
The car was described as an long term abounded vehicle, and converted to run as a fully electric car.
Thought i might try vlogging my way through this build so here's the first installment.

Just imagine how cool it would be to get the drive train out of a modern electric
car and transplant them into an AE86 !!! Cutting edge technology in an 80's classic.

Good luck with the project... you have a lot of work ahead of you :)

Yes, I thought I was alone in being sad about seeing the electric drivetrain go :(

Your future setup does sound pretty fun though.

Well the DC motor that's currently in the car won't make for an entertain drive. Would be nice to put a more modern setup in but for a private low budget project i can't image it would be cheap.

I found the entrance sheet for its best lap time round Tsukuba at 1:34 which isn't great I'm sure we've all produced a better time on GT.
But this was over 13 years ago using electric power technology from that time.

I think the fastest time is just barely under a minute with the most modified and money engineered Spoon EG if I'm not mistaken.

Still pretty cool, gives me hope my 30-year old car will make hippies happy some day :)

You are right though, the chassis is a big enough money pit, I can't imagine one with a DC motor..

Love the color, do you happen to know the paint code?

Sadly I don't have the paint code.
But I have plenty of work with prepping the car to start and drive.

Its weird but i like the electric motor.

I saw a w series trans adapter for vw engines.
Had all kinds of ideas for tdi, vr6, or even 1.8t 20v.. lol.
Tdi with a long gear rear and big turbo . Lmaooo. Sacrilege.
