The AE101/111 throttle 20V cable is approximately 2" longer than the RHD AE86 throttle cable, but I can't remember if the bulkhead end is similar or not.

Thanks for the info. I had a look and to make it work I need at least 10-12 inches
longer than the OEM AE86 cable. My KE** cable will work with a loop in it, and later
on I will check with our our "old school" Toyota wrecking yard to see if there any
other KE models that might have a shorter cable I can use.

Could you make your own? I've always wondered if you could using bicycle brake cable and then soldering it all together or something along those same lines. I guess even two throttle cables, if cut properly with shielding would work out too. Just spit balling here Mister DEE ;)

I think that there are companies who can make custom cables if you supply them
with the bulkhead, adjustment and end fittings. The KE** one that I am using has
exactly the same fittings as the stock AE86 cable, so a straight bolt-in. Making
my own is not something I would try, but I guess anything is possible if there is
no easier alternative available :)

If you do decide to make your own cable, I would go to a home improvement center like Lowes. They have much heavier and wider selection of cables then what you would find at bike shop. They will also have ferrules for the end of the cable. You can run the new cable thru your current outer casing, then attach the ferrule, but you will need to filed it down to the shape of the barrel fitting on the TPS. A total $3.25 in parts and less then an hour, and you are back on the road. Or you can try controlcables.com for a custom cable but it will take 2 to 3 weeks. Dave W

Swapped in the KE** throttle cable, and although it is nearly twice as long as the AE86
cable, it works fine. Has a loop back against the firewall to swallow the extra length, but
I lubed the cable and it runs free without any drag.

Starting to see a glimmer of daylight at the end of the tunnel now :) Even went
and bought a set of Hawk HPS pads in anticipation of needing more braking power !!!

Been getting into the wiring... seems pretty straight forward :lol:

Mind you, there is wiring for the WBO2 controller and gauge and an alarm system
mixed in with that lot... plus a few wires that I haven't been able to figure out yet.
The little panel is going to be on the floor until I am happy that everything is hooked
up correctly and working. Then I will tuck it up out of sight somewhere.

Engine bay is all done, but I had a few leaks when I filled the cooling system, so
a bit of a delay there while I get some new gaskets. Still, if all goes well I should
have this thing making a noise in a week or so. Been planning and working on this
build for the best part of three years, so it is past due !!!

Never installed an aftermarket ECU on a boosted engine before, so had a bit of
"learn as you go" before I could get it to run. Calibrating the ST205 MAP sensor
was a bit of a trick, and until I got that right the overboost fuel cut was giving me
some grief :? But with a lot of head scratching and a bit of luck I managed to get
it idling for a couple of minutes this afternoon :D :D :D :mrgreen:

So I know that everything is working, and now it is just a matter of making logs
and adjusting settings until the car drivable. There are a few small things that
need doing to tidy up the installation, but all in all I'm very happy with progress
to date. Should have some pics up tomorrow, and if I can keep the engine running
long enough, I'll post a vid.

Fixed the last couple of small items, so the underhood installation is complete.

Kind of low key install with the black wrinkle finish instead of the shiney alloy, but
that's the way I like it :) Got the OEM filter and snorkel on there at the moment to
keep any rubbish out of the S/C. The twinscrew runs very close tolerances, and
I don't want anything other than air going down the intake.

Will report back when I have been able to drive the car for a while.

Not what I would call an elegant solution, but the stickers do what they can :)

According to my research, with water/meth injection,the Sprintex S/C should
run to 20psi without needing any other charge cooling. I have an Aquamist system
that I will be looking at installing once I have the car boosting past 5psi or so. If
needed, I can set fuel cut based on boost to stay out of danger until the WI is
installed and operating.

The headers are custom from a local engineer and ceramic coated. I'm not
anticipating any problems as the car is unlikely to see extended running at high
load and rpm's.

Out with the radio and in with the gauges...

I learned a long time ago that if you are having fun driving your AE86 the last thing you
need is a radio :) This pic is taken from about where the driver's head is located, and it
looks like the gauge location will work. I don't like low mounted gauges as your eyes are
off the road for too long when looking to see what the gauges say. But not a lot of options
for mounting gauges in an AE86, so this will have to do.

Got a bit of space under the gauges for mounting some hi-bright LED's as warning lights.
Might look at doing that if I decide to push the car hard. A flashing light is much easier
to pick up in your peripheral vision than a gauge that is reading high. Gauge on the LHS
is actually the water-meth injection controller display (system not implemented yet).
Center gauge is a digital AFR and you know what the other one is :lol:

Next job is to get the terminal panel tucked away.

Discovered that a bypass valve actually does a bit more than just improve fuel
economy at cruise. Seems that it also lets the charger run a bit cooler by reducing
the amount of work the charger is doing at cruise... and cooler is better. Another
effect is to improve how the engine settles to idle after letting off the throttle.

So I had to find space to fit one in, and with a lot of trimming I managed to squeeze
the Bosch valve in under the strut brace. Hopefully it will make tuning on and off idle
a bit easier... will be trying it out this afternoon once I manage to stop the impossible
to reach heater hose leak behind the engine :P

EDIT: Valve didn't seem to make much difference. Mind you, I don't cruise when I am
out driving :) Got a bit less vacuum at idle so will need to make some changes to try
and get the idle behavior sorted out.

Yup :) On the back of the last elbow going into the intake manifold you can
see a small silver hex fitting that is currently plugged. That is a the fitting for
mounting a W/M spray nozzle. There is another similar fitting on the first elbow
after the supercharger discharge manifold. I have one of these in the box....

This week I will be looking at where I can install the various components and
how to mount them. I'm hoping to use a 10 liter tank, and will need to figure
a way to mount it in the trunk so that it will stay put and not be in the way.

System works by tracking the injector duty cycle... the harder the injectors are
working the more spray you get. There are controls to set when it turns on and
to trim the flow plus of minus to get the required cooling effect. I shall be starting
with one jet (I have a few sizes) and add the second jet if things get serious :D

Ah nice man...cant wait to see that beast in action. What i did for mounting mine was that i purchased the spare tire cover from T3 and bolted the tank to that. Thats a good setup to run off the injectors, mine runs off psi alone and you can set it to what psi it turns on at and finishes at. Sadly though my old hks blower seized on the dyno but i left the W/M system in with the turbo setup. Doesnt help much but my oil looks brand new all the time. I think you will like the W/M system. Ahhh... I remember reading a thread about someone installing a vintage HKS blower
a while back... last thing I read was about trying to get the idle down... was that you ?

Tough about losing the blower. The dyno is hard on street cars that normally don't see
WOT for more than a few seconds at a time. Thats why I am starting off with the 10psi
pulley to try and get everything working properly without taking the risk of damaging
the engine. When I know the W/M system is doing a good job I will look at taking it to
the dyno to dial in a bit more timing (very conservative right now). That should give
a good lead into how to extend the fuel and ignition maps when I fit the 15psi pulley.

I'm going to pull the RHS trunk lining off to see if there is enough room in behind to
mount the pump. If it can't fit there I will look at putting it in the spare tire well. That
is not my first option as I would like to be able to carry a spare tire if I go out of town.
At the moment I have some gunk in a pressurised can and a small compressor that sits
in the well... took these from a later model Jap import that ships from the factory
without a spare !!

Another option is to bolt the pump to the bracket I make to secure the tank... still have
to design that and work out where it will go.

Yeah that was me lol...Well the good thing about the T3 cover is you can still put a tire in there with the cover over it. Just hand tighten the cover down and leave enough slack on the hose and wires to be able to move it nicely out of the way. Yeah i would definitely be conservative at the dyno if i had to do it all over again but im pretty sure the blower was bad to begin with.

Weather has been crap for the last couple of weeks so not much driving. But I am
working on getting a temporary W/M injection setup into the car so I can get the
lines and wiring run. Thats the last step in this build, and once that is operating,
I can get stuck into the tuning side... and driving :)

Thanks. I'm kind of lucky to have these roads just a couple of miles from home. They
run thru a farming area and there is something relaxing about being able to forget that
the city is so close. Driving on the freeway or in the city does nothing for me, so I get
out on those little roads and enjoy driving the way it used to be :)

I was changing a few things around today... going back to the ST205 MAP sensor in
place of the sensor built-in to the ECU. And I have one of these on the intake manifold...

When I went to hook the sensor up I found that the car had been running with the
vacuum cap missing off one of the spigots. Can't remember if I took it off for some
reason, or if it fell off somewhere along the way. So I hooked the sensor hose up to
the open spigot (the other one is hooked up to the vacuum/boost gauge) and went
to start the car to make sure everything was working.... and sure enough my tune
was shot to pieces :( Car wouldn't even fire up until I changed a heap of things,
mainly to do with getting more fuel into the engine as it pulls more vacuum now.

So I have to basically do a whole re-tune just because of the tiny vacuum leak that
was caused by that spoigot being open. Sure surprised me, and now I start to see
why vacuum leaks can be such a pain when trying to get your car running smoothly.

Enkei Apache-V 14 x 6 (+10) with 185 x 60 R888 Proxes. The tires have plenty of life
left in them and have been hand grooved to turn them into wet+dry tires :) No excuses
now for not getting the car to the track later in the year.
