Greetings from Lima, Peru. For the past 2 years ive been getting more competitive car wise. Had an 03 jdm sti with 300whp few suspension mods and street tires. That was all my budget could afford. If i wanted to reach get to the top places figured that i had to invest about 5grand in order to keep up with the people running full coilovers/sways/hoosiers, plus ruining what was my daily driver with a hard ride. Not possible at the moment.

So I thought, i should get a cheaper/lighter car, mod the hell out of it (said in my mind: ae86's must be cheap to tune... boy was I wrong). And build the ultimate street/autox car without trying to survive with noodles and tap water.
Here's the car as I bought it.
Came with 20v BT engine, upgraded front and rear disc brakes, supposedly a LSD, front and rear suspension, FRP body panels and a semi stripped interior.
Exhaust and header are a piece of #$(#$!@, made out of bent steel, corroded as it was submerged underwater before installing.
Things I've done to the car so far:
Rust repair on bad areas
Koni front strut inserts (thanks club4age)
Eibach 450lbs/8kg front springs
Haltech Sport 1000
6.7 toyota celica rear with kaaz 2 way and 4.77 rp.
FC front brake upgrade with minicooper s rotors.
Will be doing a custom 4-2-1 SS header and 2.25" exhaust.

Where did you find the kaaz lsd for the ma47 celica supra rearend? Also how much was it? I have been looking for one for a minute.

its from an early 81 celica with a 6.7" rear end and zenki axles.

ohhh, I miss read, I thought it was from a MA47 celica supra 7.5 ones.

So the rear axle housing is from an early 1981 Celica? If so, I thought those didn't come with rear disc brakes... are you using an adapter? Also, when you said "zenki axles" are you referring to zenki AE86 axles?

You are right yellowsnow, the axle housing came with drums however I swapped my disc brakes from my older setup which has ae101 solid rear brakes.
Regarding the axles, what i meant is the size of the spline. I guess they are the same as the AE86 zenki since thats what my rear lsd is for.

I've been searching for an OEM bolt-on solution to convert my SR5 rear end to disc brakes. Looks like a lot of Toyotas have that same axle flange.
Did North American AE101's have rear disc brakes?

The rear calipers and disks are from a Levin AE101, i believe thats only JDM model.
Today I installed the KYB AGX rears with TRD 6kg springs.
The local AutoX tournament starts this sunday. So wish me luck

That means I have yet to find a bolt-on brake option using parts from the US Oh well

Well, the car is pretty old and it needs a lot of stuff in order to keep up with younger, higher powered cars. Also have to fix rust and paint...
Last weekend was good and bad.
Threw the car to the dyno to dial in the new ecu. After a couple of hours tuning it ended up with 128rwhp and 100ft/lbs tq
Got the car out of the shop and while driving to my house the drain plug from the rearend fell and when i got to my house it was out of oil . Its whining badly right now, so i will take it a part, check the damage and see what am I going to do.
Regarding the autoX event. Placed 5th out of 130 cars . And only one in the top10 without full slicks.

A little update from what has been done the past month.
SQ Cooling kit for the 20v. Great support and an awesome product all the way from AU. Now water temp wont go down on the highway, and it doesnt take 2 hours to warm up. Checked that out of the list.
A little before and after action. (after and before actually)
Next an oil cooler was installed. Its actually a Mishimoto kit for a Hyundai Genesis thats worth about 550$ and got it for 100$ almost brand new. Ordered a thermostatic oil sandwich and voila! it fits!
Then I was browsing the local classifieds and found a couple of jewels. Two TRD Tosco 13x9 wheels with the 230/50 original Dunlop tires in pretty good condition.
N-86 tires. Sweet hehe!
And they fit quite well without spacers. However need to run at least 5mm spacer to clear the brakes.
Sitting next to a JDM Spec C fully built and converted to LHD.
Those are two sexy rear ends
Wondering around town saw Colin McRae (RIP) reborn as a moto taxi driver.
And to finish it up a little less weight with lexan windows and an alignment.

A video from the event yesterday. Wasnt able to push too much since running out of that track means breaking tons of stuff. My brakes are way too sensitive and its very hard to stop fast and late without locking up. Will have to do something about that. Im thinking upping the MC to 1" from 13/16 and adding a brake bias adjuster.

Some more updates.
I had to cut the floor since I wasnt in a very comfortable position.
Welded a new floor and the seat bases.
Also started to make custom headers.
It touches the brake lines and clears the VVT solenoid for about 1cm. Hope it doesnt melt hehe. Also will wrap the headers with some thermal tape and go booster-less with a 1" MC instead of the 15/16" im running at the moment.

Yeah and they where like 300$ hehe. The only problem is that I havent been able to find tires locally and they are now part of my room decoration
Updating the thread a bit:
The header experiment wasnt succesful, hp and torque dropped a bit and the primary of the 1st cylinder is touching the vvt solenoid which now is clicking like a SOB.
Replaced the cheap ebay heims from the 4 links with QA1 aluminum heims and added traction brackets and now I feel that im driving a rolls royce. Now the rear is much more compliant and stopped sounding like a cheap motel bed.
Got rid of the old radiator that was leaking everywhere with a Mishimoto Civic aluminum rad.
Painted the interior.
And made a surge tank since the sr5 tank has no baffles and I had to run it with 3/4 tank for not having fuel problems.
Ready for AutoX action tomorrow!!

no problems with the cooling kit so far? mine initially cooled too much, swapped for a non-drilled thermostat and it fixed it. now my coolant temp floats up and down...

I have a bit of an issue with the temperature getting to 105C for 3 or 4 secs and then stabilizes back to 90C. However i think that could be from my leaking mishimoto radiator cap.
Also the coolant on the ae86 is very tricky to purge. At least for me. I had to get one of those kits that has a funnel bolted to the radiator cap and thats how I got rid of all the air pockets inside.

For getting rid of the air I get something to make the fluid higher than the engine. The gravity will force the fluid down and the air will rise. I usually do it with a Gatorade bottle with the bottom cut off and electrical tape around the top , jam it in and go!

This years autox championship is almost over. Have to get at least 3rd in the last event in order to secure my 1st place overall.
Motorwise, I was debating on keeping the 4AGE 20v, however, havent seen many reliable 150WHP+ 4AGEs around. And in order to get that power the investment is quite higher as getting another engine with more displacement.
So I got myself a SR20DET block and gearbox and a SR20VE head. Will be building this puppy and stick N/A. According to the internetz can easily achieve 180WHP+ without too much hassle.
Regarding the rear end Im thinking on going for the Weir SC turbo axles.
Anyone knows if the 2 piece driveshaft can handle that power?

This years season is over. At the beginning the competition wasnt so feirce, I was able to get the first 2 events easily. The car feather weight allowed me to maneuver between the cones in the kart track without a hitch, nothing like the big cars which under steered like crazy.
Then I put the roll cage and headers. This **** really fucked up the car . First the headers were too big for the stock engine. Lost like 8hp and 10tq. Add in the extra weight from the cage and the result is a slower and less competitive car. F$CK.
Ran all year like this and suffered on the big track which has a big 500 feet low incline climb.
Ended up loosing the next 2 events to an 07 Civic SI with a bunch of mods and hoosier A6s. Im running hankook z214 C51 compound which stinks for autocross since they never get up to temp.
The last event was held on the Kart track and I had to get at least 4th place to win the championship. The month the final before was my poorest performance so far. Came up 4th beaten by my buddies Starlet KP with a built 16v which goes like hell, Civic SI and a VW bug.
I made sure everything was perfect and all the effort was rewarded. 1st place on the last event and the championship .
Now time for more powah.
Engine out and some help from my friend Rhino.
Then I hitched a ride to the fabricator.
New powerplant with the patient.
This is how it sits today. Im thinking on moving it a bit farther inside

Didnt use spacers on the crossmember and clearances are very tigth down there. I might have to put a skidpad just in case.
As I said, engine is quite far back lol.
Enginen will be rebuilt with 12.5 CR pistons, and stock valve train for the moment. (stock SR20VE cams are 264 10.7 in 268 10.3 ex). Hoping to get around 170-180 to the wheels.
