^thanks guys!

did some work yesterday, almost done with the front bash bar. what a fiasco with the welding. ran out of wire half way thru, bought another roll, went to put it in and it completly unrolled on me...huge ball of wire on the garage floor. bought another, it sucked...finally got things working after about an hour of frustration.

Is that a FX16 GTS steering wheel? Do you have any more pics with this on your car? I'm thinking about getting one for my car :)

Is that a new radiator support?

Also, I just wanted to say keep up the good work! :) Bodywork sucks, but it looks like it's coming out nicely :)

its an ae92 gts steering wheel. was blue, painted w/SEM satin black.

yup, bnib upper rad support :D

thanks, been debating lately...this body work is slow, its always below 30 degrees here now, no time with 2 kids, no time with my other part time jobs on top of my full time career...looks like tax season is going to be paying a shop to complete this. otherwise i wont be driving this thing again til 2014 at this rate, if im lucky.

Were those black fenders really in worse shape than these new ones?

overall, yes. the new ones have rust on the bottom, but thats it. the rockers are going to make a quick fix out of that. thinking time wise, the grey ones will take way less time, and i can weld in the winter. dot doing body work now, too cold to lay down plastic body filler.

Yeah, this is a great build up. From the old site to the new. I've seen your car go through a lot over the years. I sold you those blue panels a while back, cool to see them in the thread. You do great work, keep up with progress and that good attitude.

Dennis, Jonny, & Marving-thanks guys, it's crazy to think that people are watching this build, years later. It's good for keeping me motivated. And yup, still have the door panels, they will be re-done in black tweed. Found black armrests a lil while back to go with them. Those brake lines will be going in after this step in my journey with this car is done. After body work the engine bay is getting done up and then I think that's it. I'm sure there will be little stuff, but once this never ending body work is done, I just want to enjoy the car. It's been too long, and other friends 86's just aren't the same. Thanks for the support!

I know how you feel about driving your car man. Ever since I bought mine almost 4 years ago, I may have been able to drive it 4k miles. ARG! Just dont get hesitant, take the time to do it all perfect. Still the best build on the club!

thanks guys.
OkinawaLevin...well youre going to be on this coast, so maybe one day. feel free to hit me up if youre ever in or near jersy.

took a few hours to work on the 86 yesterday, with the help of my friend Adam. here's what i was talking about with the welding wire just unrolling and pissing me off...
Image
almost done welding this thing up, not going to finalize the mounts to the chassis til the car is together and i can be sure that everything lines up right.
Image
Image
put Adam to work on the door jambs, thanks again man!
Image
then pulled the old rockers i chopped from a parts hatch out for a little comparison and stuff, looks like its gonna work with what i had in mind.
Image
started cutting and chopping the rockers up.
heres what i was left with on the passengers side. rusty fender at the top, templete below that, then the rocker part im using, then the final product to replace the cancer. just need to roll the edges over and make it fit nice, one side almost done.
Image
Image
me so happy!

it sucked, but i made lemonade out of that lemon. stretched the wire out straight down my driveway and tied a big @ss bolt to it so it wouldnt spool up again. worked well, but uber ghetto. and the bold would get snagged on cr@p every few feet. the things you do...
by me we have this thing called "Blue Laws", in Bergen County NJ. Theres like 5 large malls right in a 5 or so mile radius, so to give the locals a break, nothing not deemed needed for survival(you need food, so thats sold) is sold. great for traffic, bad when you need something and dont want to drive a county over to get it. with limited time, i had to make due.

Ha ha! Yeah, I had just taken the tape off of my new spool of wire when it slipped out of my hand, "Fuhhhhhhhhhhh..." it all unraveled on my garage floor.

Blue Laws, huh? That totally makes sense now that you explained it.
I always wondered why lots of spots were closed on Sundays in Bergen County area or stores couldn't sell certain things.

I think we've all been there before with the weld-wire spool exploding everywhere!
Keep up the good work, man. Glad to see you are getting stuff done.

so i got started on one of the 2 free doors i recently got(big thanks to the guy who helped me out after the body panel fiasco i encountered), over the weekend. passengers side. some rust underneath near the drain holes, removed all seam sealer down there too.
Image
looks like they were sitting outside for some time.
Image
wire wheeled the rust
Image
this corner was the worst, since it appears the door was dragged a good distance, so theres a flat there and the layers are seperated. i need to fix that up.
Image
pulled the side moulding off to see that it wad been resprayed at one time, and they masked off the moulding...crapola, what am i in for?!
Image
not too bad, 2 seperate dents, but from the inside they look minor. sanded the outside completly, just need to remove the bondo and lay down some plastic body filler there, por-15 the rust inside and out, then scuff the inside areas for paint.
Image
once i get the doors done, ill stick them on the car and weld up the fender repairs. those pieces are all done, just need to weld them in.

If you want my $0.02, you should undercoat the inside of the fenders (I just did the bottom portion) when you're done with them. Going forward you shouldn't have to worry about rust from leaves / debris rusting them out! :D

Yup.
Did some work other day. Drivers door jamb...entire thing...complete. What a pita. Next is passengers side, touch up roof. Then on to doors/fenders/hood. Those will be easier I feel. Was totally planning on going at this hard, til wife got a p/t job 4 nights a week and all day Saturdays. With 2 young-ins, times more limited than ever now. Fml...
