fenders are almost done, one last thin layer of filler needs to be sanded down after finding a few small imperfections. then its onto the head light covers and the side skirt fitment.

thanks.

not much in terms of updates lately. started putting the interior back in: carpets, seats, dash and associated parts...then ended up sitting in the drivers seat just because its been so long. that turned into me pretending to drive it, got out once i caught myself making engine sounds. also had someone stop by yesterday to install a brand spanking new windshield. apparently it was "the last one in the ware house and it has been sitting for years and years."
finally remembered to bring the rivet gun from work home, not a moment too late either.
Image
just aboout ready to drop the windshield in...
Image
all done.

its a sad yet happy day, im moving and the new place soon, that has no garage. after the middle of december, ill be working outside while the 86 rests quietly at a friends house til its time to paint.

Little by little, I guess that is what matters!
How often do you get to tinker on your machine having the full time job and the family man duties?
And were are guys moving to, still in NJ?

Cheers, sir!

been a while Jonny, sorry for the delay.
tinker time-roughly an hour or 2 a week...
moving-yeah, 15 minutes north of my old place, still in NJ

with all the stuff going on, holidays, moving, projects at work...I have had no time for anything.
but, since I was packing, why not start putting things back into the car? less to pack later so I put stuff that wont be in the way of painting, back in the car.
Image
Image

then it came time...dreaded this moment for quite some time. no more garage, time to move the 86 to its foster parents house for a bit.
Image
Image
Image
sitting in a garage with an imported Levin and a brz, at least the 86 will have company, lol.
Image

then I bought myself a christmas present, a bnib zenki trueno lip from EP Importers to go along with the bnib zenki bumper I have at home.
Image

what a pain in the ass getting that car to my friends house. started right up at my old place, almost slid off the trailer getting it on since it was covered in ice. tons of traffic, then we get there and its so cold that it wont start. don't even ask how we got it up the hill but it required a janky tow strap, pushing it part way up hill while theres snow on the ground, lots of salt and shoveling, smacking my head on things...an overall joy.

Happy Holidays / Merry Xmas, Craig! I hope you and the family had a nice one.
It kind of sucks you have to leave your sweet garage behind -_-
Best of luck at the new place. I guess you and the family have made the shift already?

I am hating the winter too. I forget how bitter and dreadful it can be. A major deterrence UNGH.

its been a long time with no updates. things haven't been stagnant, but they have been slow. looks like the car is going to paint in a week or so(hopefully sooner rather than later, fingers crossed) so I have been digging thru parts, cleaning the ones that need it, buying little odds and ends, and assembling what I can at home with the car not there. started putting this beauty together the other day...
Image
so if all goes well, there will be some substantial updates coming soon

not really. heres what I did and used.
-2 cans of 3M high strength spray adhesive(#90)~$12 per can at the HD
-3 yards of black tweed, 54" wide

-can see in 1st pic of panels, I just cut to size for each piece leaving about 2-3" around edges pending contours(more left around edges for contours).
-put tweed upside down and put 2 coats of adhesive, immediately do panel after.
place panel upside down on tweed after waiting 1-2 minutes as instructed on can.
-flip over and press tweed onto panel, running fingers along trim lines on panel. go over it a few times for good adhesion.
-cut slots about 1/2-1" apart and/or "V"s around rounded edges, trim corners off.
-put back upside down and spray 2 coats around edges of tweed and panel.
-fold edges over pressing tweed down well as you go. rounded corners do a small strip at a time.

takes some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it its easy. the contoured areas are a bit tricky. when using vinyl, hot air helps, like a hair dryer, for the corners to mold it to the contours.

I will be doing the rear panels tonight possibly, ill try to take more detailed pics.

so todays the big day...taking the car to paint!
----------------------------------------------------------------
and here's a quick write-up for the rear panels...

1. cut fabric to size(keep in mind what side will be shown as some fabrics only have one good side)
Image
2. good side down-spray fabric with 3M High Strength adhesive #90(2 coats) & spray face of panel(2 coats)
Image
3. place panel on fabric after waiting the recommended 2 minutes, be careful to place it properly, the 1st time
Image
4. carefully fold the top edge over, start at bend and work your way up
Image
5. flip over and smooth the fabric out(start in middle, work your way out) and run fingers thru grooves. do this 2-3 times to get proper adhesion
Image
6. cut slits around corners and any turns where fabric will need to fold over and the line isn't straight(learning curve warning)
Image
7. spray edges of fabric and panel with 2 coats of 3M. start folding fabric over, one strip at a time until done. press well so it sticks
Image
8. done

The interior wrapping looks nice. Hope the adhesive on the headliner holds up to the heat; it's been known to separate in hot conditions.

I used some heavy duty spray adhesive for the headliner in my 32, held for maybe a day until the sun came out, then it just came undone. If this holds fast, lemme know the brand please.
