New way of communicating. A lot of people use facebook now. Some people still hang around here. AE86fightclub was made to weed out the "noobs" from the AE86 community. It is just another click and if your not part of it, then your not cool lol......right. Anyways there are still people posting on here. Jondee has added a lot of references to make this site more organized and structured. I personally enjoy helping new ae86 owners/anyone out.

The important thing for people to remember is that these forums are still here. There is nothing stopping it from being as gold as it was back in the day. If people want it to be a community again, they just have to take some time to post on here. I hope they will think of that. ;)

Here is another take on the situation.... there is so much "How to do the 4AC>>>4AG
swap, SR5>>>GTS upgrade, 4AG>>>20V swap etc etc" information on the interwebz these
days, that there is little need to go on a forum and ask questions. The club has thousands
of members who have joined but never made a post, so for sure there are a lot of people
who just browse the pages to research their projects, and find the answers they need.

These days the most active forums as far as posting is concerned, are the buy, sell and
swap listings. Because of the specialist nature of the club4AG, putting a FOR SALE post
up here will make sure you hit your target market. The forums might not be as "chatty"
as they once were, but they are still the best place to come for advice from old school
members who actually know what they are talking about :ugeek: The forum provides the venue,
but it is the members who create the life and vibrancy by being active... posting, asking
or answering questions. Like all clubs... the more you put in, the more you get out :)

Totally read my mind.

Literally just posted a response similar to this in another thread.

"Bumping this thread because I'm a n00bie here, and I'm bored at work.

Speaking for the "younger" crowd, I know for me personally, for a long time I never really needed to make an account just for the simple fact that if I had any questions, a few google searches would lead me to answers here on forums. Not just ae86 related, but all forums in general. I've literally browsed this forum for YEARS and have found most, if not all answers to my questions already.

That, plus the fact that younger dudes like me never really had forums growing up. Everyone (on all forums) talks about how forums are dead and aren't active like they used to be (early - mid 2000s), but I was barely 10 years old. Now that we're older, we missed the wave of activity and spend most time on FB just because thats where all the activity is at.

BUT ....

... Facebook is annoying. Dudes are lazy and dumb. and the only thing anyone cares about on Facebook is how many likes/shares they get.

Therefore I'm making an attempt to be more involved on forums where people actually talk about their cars. I'm sure I'm not the only "young" guy who feels that way either."

The AE86 community in general has gone downhill. Some of the people I have met are really cool genuine people, but once the car became a highly sought after commodity, I have started to see a lot of people who find/buy cars just to strip/part for profit. No ones looking out to help fellow enthusiast to get their car running anymore, it's all about $$$ now. I remember there use to be a monthly give thread, were people would post up free parts just to help one another, I can't see that happening anymore unfortunately.'

Still here..Been here for quite some time, through numerous crashes, etc..

My best guess is most users from that era have either moved on to a different car or simply that life has taken priority. Myself included with a family and kids to look after the last thing I'm worried about is posting on here.

What is most frustrating despite it being the most active part of the forum is the lack of participation on the FS/WTB threads for those that genuinely are trying to complete a project....however there really isn't anything we can do there either, as this platform gets older the ones that are dedicated will continue to hoard until the end.

Can't blame them either! I hate seeing all guys snag up all these AE86s and tear them up.
Nothing wrong with having fun with your car, but dudes these days straight trash them.

It's a sign of the times... trashing cars. In all kinds of motor sport the vehicle has pretty
much become a disposable item in a "win at all costs" competitive environment. Drivers
have to go all out at 11 tenths if they want to finish on the podium. Doesn't matter if it is
a drift car, circuit car, rally car or dirt track car... you only have to watch the crash and
burn videos on youtube to see how drivers willingly nudge/barge other cars off the track
just to make a pass... and we are not talking demolition derby here !!!

It makes me cringe when I see nice cars getting trashed by overly aggressive/inconsiderate
driving on the track. For sure it makes me wonder if I'll ever take my car on the track with
a full field of competitors. At least with autoX you only have yourself to blame :)

I'm torn when it comes to racing like that. On one hand, I'm like you it makes me cringe seeing cars get beat up on the track, then on the other its not racing if there's no rubbing! At least on a track, if something happens the driver/team will fix the damage and move onto the next race. After all, its a track car!

I was mainly referring to the younger crowd. You know, the ones that watch videos of Keiichi Tsuchiya drifting and then want a "hachi-roku drift missile" but have no money. So they end up just turning it into junk

Side note, this video is awesome. Pure racing at its finest

Yeeharrrr... :D :D Old school saloon car racing... you build it and take it to the track
and race it yourself. If you break it you have to fix it. And the result is clean, hard racing
where drivers respect each other on the track and obey the "rules of racing".

None of this... move to the inside of the track approaching a corner, leave your braking
way to late, and then use the car on the outside as a berm. You see this all the time in
one make racing. But the guys in that vid know that if your front bumper hasn't reached
the drivers door of the car you are trying to pass when approaching a corner... you back off.

Yes... wannabe drifters will latch onto old Toyotas because they are cheap, and because
Initial D has shown them how cool it is to go sideways. So kids with next to no driving
experience go out and lose control while practicing their drifting, trashing another AE86.
Before the AE86 became a cult car, it was any car that was cheap and plentiful... Ford.
Chev, Plymouth... kids have always trashed cars... its a ritual of passage :)

That video about 5 min in gets intense! I went to an ae86fightclub meet about a month ago cause it was close to my house. I noticed that the majority of people there were keeping their cars mostly stock. I do appreciate a stock car as a classic but I used to enjoy seeing the ingenuity and uniqueness of ones builds. You go to a RX meet and you see some crazy builds. Also, the whole import racing scene has kind of died down here in Southern California. Australia's racing scene seems to be growing a lot in the past years. Some of my old school muscle car friends have been selling most of their stuff to Aussie's lately.

Its the exact opposite here in my area, or maybe I'm just involved in the wrong groups Lol. Its either stance, or junk "drift missiles."

I don't mind either, but I mainly get annoyed with the type of people those crowds attract, especially with the stance crowd. Its all about who's got the coolest/most expensive wheels and how many instagram followers you have. Lots of arrogance and trash talk.

.. and unfortunately ae86s have fallen under their radar so its getting pretty lame.

And then you have all the ex-import guys who get a c5 corvette, put a cam in it, and then all of a sudden think they're the coolest thing since sliced bread.

I know for me personally stuff like that just causes me to go MIA and stay under my little rock Lol.

... and man do I wish the racing scene was more popular here. I would be at the track every weekend if I could!

Yeah I hear ya, I had a daughter so had to put the 86 on the back burner for a while. The stance crowd is the most annoying to me. I've recently started seeing a bunch of stance guys with stickers of their instagram page on their cars. It seems like they are going for some "cool" factor that us old guys can't grasp the logic behind lol. Hopefully it's just a fad and doesn't stick around. Also, what bugs me is everyone putting LS engines into everything too. Stance and LS guys are like the "bros" of motorsports.

SO. FREAKING. ANNOYING. Their instagram names on their cars, and then they talk about their "builds" and "killing the game" ... like dude, I know you love your car and all but wheels and coilovers is not a build. Literally the exact reason I've made it a point to get more involved on these forums. I hate talking with those "douchebro enthusiasts".

the LS swaps don't really bother me as long as the swap is being put to good use. Like LS swapping a rusted s13 to slide in? Sure thats cool. Swapping it in attempt to be different and get those facebook likes? ehhh, pretty lame.

I think in all honesty it just boils down to the type of person. To me, a dude can have the cleanest/craziest car in the world, but if he's a dick then it automatically sucks. Same thing applies to a dude with a piece of junk. If he's cool and all about having a good time, his car is cool. Unfortunately the AE86 seems to have attracted the "bros" now-a-days.

on the bright side, at least I know I'm not the only one who notices this haha

I miss the pop up ad days....
I miss being able to buy a zenki bumper from northridge Toyota for 200 bucks or a Kouki for 400
I miss rear ends being 500, door panels being 40, whole interior being 300 lol
Take me back to them better days

I was thinking today about the days when the message boards all over the internet were the hot thing. I remember when i had my z32 (that's 300zx for those who don't know) and the site to go to was called twinturbo.net that site was real simple and it was busy.... the most recent post was at the top and it went in chronological order like they do here but there was not any different catagories. You just posted and if it was a for sale you put FS at the beginning etc etc. Seems like there are just way too many sub categories... not just here but on all the other auto message boards. Like this subcategory....i bet most people that come to club4ag rarely come here in the fun talk...they probably just stick to the for sale section or the tech area if they need help with something. But if it was all together.....then they would see more posts and be more inclined to engage in other threads and we'd have more participation because your post would be visible to everyone that comes to club4ag not just the few people who go to the 4ag engine tech or the wanted boards. Do it.

I agree 100%. Although I think this can be easily combated with more activity, even within the tech / for sale sections. If a new-comer sees tons of activity they'll be more inclined to join the forums and participate. Thats what happened with me!

I've always browsed the ae86 forums for years as a kid, including all the European and Australian ones, but never made accounts until recently. This is the only 86 forum I really get involved with because this seems to be the only one with somewhat regular "activity".

its happening to all BBS style forums. Forums are a ghost town these days.. Social media is much more easier and efficient, with instantaneous response literally in seconds especially because its accessible from mobile smartphones.

I've made lots of friends on this forum, and I've only been actively posting for a year or so.

It just takes a little time for replies. If you ain't patient, go to Zilvia or miataturbo.net and grab some popcorn and watch the disaster unfold!

If you think Club4AG is dead, you need to get involved with a niche chassis forum; IE a car that either wasn't in Best Motoring or Initial D. You'll wait days, weeks, or even months for a reply hahaha.

Remember, if you build it... they will come lol.

Ehh, easier and efficient is not always a good thing :p

All the good info is on the forums. Too many people crave attention and post dumb sh*t on social media.

Definitely something fishy going on there. I heard of some guys up north in the bay area that would pick up these cars, strip out all the parts then crush the shells. Then they would just sell the parts out kinda like this guy. Pretty shady stuff.
