So, how are they selling?

Postby Turtle » Wed Jan 23, 2013 2:24 pm

So it's been a while since the FRS and BRZ first hit the streets. How are sales going? Meeting, exceeding or below expectations?

It's the #1 car of the year, so I'm pretty sure they're selling like hot cakes. I work @ the dealership in vegas and see them selling often.

I would also like to know the figures as well. One by Toyota and one by Subaru data sales figures for the first year.
In my area........Northeast/ New England....... I do see during the summer time than as of now since it is winter snow season here.

May-December was around 11k cars for Toyota/Scion in the US, and around 4100 for Subaru

So is it selling well? Depends what you use as the yardstick, but it's not that kinda car in the first place. Why? Because there really is no mass market for it, and frankly, it's still too expensive (IMHO). The aftermarket have embraced it because there is nothing else for them to really embrace. Until the economy really changes, it will likely continue along at it's current pace

Lets just put it this way, they are selling every single one they make still, and dealers don't have it in thier lots for more than a week in any color in the USA at this time for most cars sold at MSRP.

Well, from the NYTimes which interviews Scion about the new tC series:

"What they didn’t say: In introducing the rebooted tC, and a line of “Ten Series” special edition silver-themed models celebrating the brand’s 10th anniversary, the juggernaut that is the FR-S was hardly mentioned. The message seemed to be, “Don’t forget, we still sell other models.”"

Apparently the FR-S has been a monster success, but at the cost of other sales.

And there's a rumor going around that part of Toyota's larger negotiations with Subaru has been the right to use Subaru's outstanding AWD system on future products. Subaru's AWD apparently being one of, if not the best, on the market, and Toyota's being, well, not so impressive.

When my Mom and I went to test an FR-S, they had to give us the automatic one because the manual one at the dealer sold before we took off! My god it's fun though I totally want one to compliment my AE86 when I get more money for a new car!

i had the chance to smash around in my friend's a few weeks back. my want for one went from 'ehh, i'd like one when im older or something' to really wanting one when i can get the means to buy a new car.

they're quite fun and exceeded my expectations. honestly felt like the corolla, wanting to be smashed everywhere and driven to the limits, except with updated 2012 interior. it was kind of surreal.

16,057 Fr-s have been sold and 5,932 Brz's have been sold. Even here in my city, they're selling pretty quick!

I like them too. I also wish they were a much simpler economy car at a price point competitive with things like a civic or corolla, even if it means lower performance across the board, or preferably, lower safety.

Where I live (most people describe as the country) I have seen one sold and one in a lot for like a year.
There shouldn't be a day that goes by where you don't learn something new.

I'm with you on this although I love the car. Performance wise, a nice S2000 would be a great car but not much cheaper for a nice AP2. An AP1 is hard to find in decent condition anymore. I would honestly take a new MX-5 over the FRS/BRZ. I think Toyota needs to do a smaller convertible to compete with the Miata. If I could get a loan on a 10-15 year old S2k I would. Best 4 cylinder made arguably against a K20 or K24/K20 hybrid.

Not to resurrect and old topic but the new Toyota 86 now they are called in the USA too, is selling fine.
It is much slower than at the launch of the FR-S in 2013 but still outpacing all other sports cars including Porsche Cayman and Mazda Roadster, as well as Fiat 124 Spider. Only sports car selling in volume over this is still the Ford Mustang. :geek:
