What do you want?

Postby carbd7age » Mon Mar 04, 2013 6:30 am

What kind of how-to's are you guys looking for? Easy stuff like how to change the oil or make a big crazy shift knob? How to remove the dash, radio, shifter, brakes, front wheel bearings, bushings, etc. I made a tool to remove the steering wheel cuz I didn't have a puller.

Anyone want a DIY for pressing out bushings without a full sized press or having to burn them out?

but burning them out was so fun. LOL.

I would like to see the MSPNP DIY again.

Rebuilding door hinges would be an awesome DIY. there was an article in popular mechanics a few years ago.

http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/maintenance/4350218

would be alot better if it was corolla oriented, so we can get the sizes of bushings needed. If someone doesnt jump on it, i will do it when i rebuild my hinges.

How about some suggestions for stripping paint off of the textured plastic that the lip, grille, headlight cover, etc have?

Image
Really would like to bring the front end of my car back to how it was from factory without messing up the textured plastics underneath.

I kinda like the monochrome look. the paint on the eyelids, grille, and corner lights is weird. Unfortunately, it will depend on how these items were prepped for paint. I cant tell from the pic if the bumpers and stuff even have the texture. They could be sanded hella under that paint.

*edited cause i cant type.

There was one on 4AC-Powered. I'll see if I can bring it over.

I remember on the old forum someone posted up a link from celicasupraforums about using oven cleaner on the interior plastic then baking it in the sun and it really faded out the color to give a really good base. You could try that out and tell us how that goes. Need to do rear bumper in the future, but don't know 100% how to take off paint while keeping texture yet.

Luckily? it looks like a cheap Maaco job as on the lip the paint has chipped off and still has texture under it. I think they preppped the painted areas, if that, and went to town on it. Hell you can see where they didn't even remove the old license plate to spray the front end.. Am awaiting a writeup or two before I tackle it but I'll try to post up my results.

Does anybody have a list of things needed to do the swap?

I've had it sitting because of the salt in Chicago. My brother in law helped with it. I'm trying to have it running again for the summer.
