DIY: LED Bulbs and Fixing Hyper Flash Turn signals

Postby cincybranr » Thu May 17, 2018 7:30 pm

Hey all,

Probably a topic that hasn’t been brought up in awhile, LED bulbs. I came across something I wanted to pass on and I take Zero Credit for it!

Problem: I installed LED Turn signal bulbs and now they Hyper flash! What do I do?

Solution: After searching with no luck for an off the shelf Turn signal relay that was Plug-n-play, I came across a free, easy fix that may help you as well. See link below. EDITED 4/23/20..Link not working so picture posted.

Some background info below regarding LED bulbs on my car.

My Car:
1985 AE86 GTS (Zenki) with Toyota 'Green' Turn Signal Relay Part # 81980-22070
Sylvania ZEVO LED's for all outside bulbs (Color Specific)

I read all sorts of horror stories about polarity issues, connection issues, Hyper flashing etc, but I read great things about the new LED bulbs and decided to give a Sears Gift card from christmas a go. I also thought LED lights would look awesome behind my new Sprinter tails.

I had Zero issues after installing Sylvania ZEVO LED's. Everything fit perfect, lit up great, and brake lights worked perfect as well. I went with their color specific bulbs (Amber for signals, Red for running lights/brake etc).

Hopefully this inspires some confidence out there..

Good information. How do the tails look with red LED's behind the red lens?
Are they brighter or darker than with standard bulbs?

Cheers... jondee86
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress
depends on the unreasonable man.

Pretty bright actually. I wish I would have done a before and after. Sylvania recommends color specific LED bulbs behind colored lenses. I was skeptical at first but the prices were the same so i thought I would try it.

New Pictures coming soon... (Edited 4/23/20)
