Postby Puddingpants » Fri Jul 21, 2017 1:17 am

I'm looking for an Mfactory 5th gear for my T50 trans. I know they are impossible to find but if you have one let me know!

Have you tried contacting M factory?

They have very good customer service.

I called the US distributor on the Mfactory site and they said it's been discontinued with no plans of making them again.

Strange.. I just bought the taller 5th gear from BGRS earlier this year. I highly doubt they were just sitting around the warehouse.. Would have to ask them though.

That's what you are looking for, right?

The last Mfactory 5th was a very limited run group buy, BGRS bought a handful to resell. I just serviced the owner of BGRS' (Grant) T50 and removed his Mfactory 5th. Its the first production run of the gear set (has some gear whine) and is used, but perfect working condition. You might want to inquire Grant if he is willing to sell it.

"gear whine"? that's the first I've heard of this.

Could you expand on this?

Thanks

Depending on how gears are cut, they may exhibit some noise. Easiest example is the "whine" type noise you hear in reverse because the gears are straight cut as opposed to helical.

Hmm.. Not only do I understand exactly what you are saying, but I also am concerned for it's install..

Not to threadjack here, but the main reason I purchased the taller 5th, was to reduce not only revs (and thus tasking the engine unnecessarily), but elements of NVH from said high-rev cruising. Maybe I'm jumping the gun a little bit here, but imagining a reverse gear "whine" at highway cruise, in 5th, seems to negate my whole reason for purchasing the gear. Especially at the 530.00 USD price...

'Gear wine' just like the stock 5th gear fyi. Mfactory's first run they cut the teeth like stock, so apparently it wines a bit (just like stock). Second run they added a bevel (or something to that affect) to the teeth to reduce gear noise.
