Matrix Garage Update

Postby yoshimitsuspeed » Thu May 07, 2015 1:47 pm

Been a while since I posted any updates on the forums. Honestly I get so little interest here I have moved most of my business updates to my Facebook Matrix Garage page. I kind of hate it but I gotta focus my time where the people are. Join my facebook page if you want to see more of what I'm up to and or what my new days rant is.

Have some cool new things going on. I have had to slow down development a bit because I was spending more on R&D and product development than I was making. Time to transition to a more sustainable business plan. As always the more I make and the more community support I get the more time and money goes back into it.

I have a few new cam options.

I recently picked up TED Components Kamakazee Kams.
These guys have been involved with and supplied cams for some of the most powerful 4AGEs that have been built.
http://www.matrixgarage.com/store/kamakazee-kams-1
I will likely be adding a couple more cams to this lineup.

I also have some Matrix Garage cams coming out that are being made by a top cam grinder who has a lot of experience getting big performance out of 4AGEs. I have also been able to get some good input from TED components on the designs. I am confident these cams will perform better than most of what's out there and as well as the few top cam makers out there. Right now I am focusing on the more mild street type cams but if it's successful I may start bringing in a couple bigger cams in.

The main thing that started this is that Tomei has been horrible about maintaining inventory and it seems I can only get their cams about 9 months out of the year. Of course when everyone calls me looking for them is when they are out of stock so I decided to find some other options that would be in a similar price range. Unfortunately they sell the 16V poncam so dang cheap I can't get something made here in the US in low volume quite as cheap so my poncam replacement will cost a little more but should be much better in performance and at least as good in quality.

To try to offer a poncam competitive cam with the most lift possible I have been researching just how much lift can be run on the stock valve spring. According to more conservative numbers that should be somewhere around 7.5mm. We all know that's not true. On the other hand others have run 9mm cams without problems. I definitely don't recommend this but it makes it clear that there is a lot of grey area when it comes to just how much lift a spring can take.

Because of this I'm going to offer two base level cams. One around 8.2mm lift and 264 duration that will be perfectly safe on the stock valve springs. We are hashing out the details on this cam right now. I hope to have it finalized in the next week. If you are going to run a cam on stock compression this is the cam I would recommend but I really don't recommend running more cam without more compression.

I will also be offering an 8.7mm lift 265 cam. My manufacturer has run this cam on stock springs and it should be safe but it is a cam that we recommend you run with upgraded springs and if you don't then run at your own risk. Really the worst case scenario should be either you fatigue the spring over time and start to float or you break the spring after a long period of time. I believe this to be fairly unlikely after the research I have done and the reports of taller cams being run on stock springs.
For a street cam this is the smallest cam I would run. In fact TED keeps giving me crap for wasting my time with such small cams even on street motors lol.

I will be pricing these cams as close to Tomei as possible but since my cams will be made to order or in low volume here in America I can't quite match Tomei's 16v price. Mine will be $580 but you should be getting a lot more cam. I will be matching Tomei's price on the 20v cam.

The street cam I am really excited about is the MG 272
It is a mild cam for a 272. It was developed for boost but has been proven to be a great NA cam as well.

NA
If you are building your motor from the ground up with proper compression and supporting mods I think this will be a great base level street cam. It should give a good broad power curve with peak power right around redline.
For the 20 valve I definitely wouldn't run anything smaller than this. You should see some very nice gains over the stock cam with this one.

Turbo/SC
This will be a great cam for moderate power builds. This is the cam I am saving my pennies for to put on my BT turbo.

If these cams do well I might add more to the lineup. I can also likely get other grinds to fit specific builds for just a little more.

I'll also have some good valve springs in the $150 range very soon as well.

Side motor mount molds are done. I have a couple sets of 60A in stock right now. I have urethane to make 40 and 80 so those should be able to ship in a few days or so.
If you have already ordered a timing belt side insert email me if you want just a trans side.

We are also filling out our shift bushing lineup slowly but surely.
We have the trans side shifter cable bushings and Delrin shift base bushings here.

And I am excited to bring out our shifter pivot joint bushings.
These are made out of semi porus 3D printed Nylon. They are then impregnated with ceramic dry film lubrticant which should ensure smooth grease free shifting for a very long time. If your bushings are old and worn out this will stiffen up your shifting a lot. They start out a little on the stiff side so that they will break in and stay nice and tight.
The first production order will get here in a few days. As soon as they do I will put them on the site and throw up a link.

I have also just found a replacement bearing for the smallport 10 PSI supercharger pulley.

For those who haven't seen it yet I also have Klubersynth oil in liters now. The price is a little more than you would pay for enough GM oil for one change but instead you get enough oil for about 6.

We have added a couple new 7A components. Most notable is a cheap chromoly flywheel that fits 6 bolt 7AFE and 4AFE cranks.

Our rear tie rods are in stock and ready to ship. Been getting great positive feedback on these.

I have slightly revised my turbo mani design to optimize airflow and I think it looks a little nicer to boot.

That's about all I can think of now. I'll post some new updates soon.

I also just found a better price on Knocklink G4 knock lights so I just knocked off a good bit off the price.

This is a great affordable option for monitoring for knock on high compression or boosted builds.

I just got setup with a wholesale account with fastbrakes.com so I can get good prices on their products such as their big brake kit.
I haven't been able to find much info or reviews on their AW11 kits but their products in general seem to have pretty good reviews.
http://www.fastbrakes.com/product_p/fb- ... -4-pot.htm

Their rear set is mispriced on their site. The rep noticed this when I inquired about why it was so much more than others.
So with the parking brake kit it is $800 and with no parking brake it's $650

They also have kits for AE86 and many other cars.

Pretty good prices and running Wilwood components should be pretty decent quality.
I can definitely knock a little off the retail prices above.
