New deal on pistons and more piston info

Postby yoshimitsuspeed » Sun Oct 12, 2014 3:22 pm

So I just got the hook up on a really good deal on Arias pistons.
I can do any of their shelf pistons for $480.
Not bad considering OEM will cost you something like $420 through Lithia.

The biggest problem with their pistons is that the numbers are a little bit off.
They have been very receptive to discussing this and I hope to have everything straightened out in the very near future. This will include changing the compression height to 30.5mm like OEM and will also hopefully correct the compression ratio figures they suggest.
Until then though I have put together some helpful info.

Here are some general quick reference numbers for their pistons.

I hope to add the 20v pistons as well as the other manufacturers in the near future.
I have also made up a little guide on what's important when looking at pistons and how to crunch your own numbers.

One of the biggest things to consider with these pistons is that most the 16v pistons sit below the deck so I wouldn't run them with a stock headgasket but with about a .8mm headgasket you should get a decent squish gap.

I am quite fond of the design of all their 16v pistons except the very high comp, they rate them at 10.7:1 but they will really be over 12:1 with the stock combustion chamber volume so this isn't really usable for your average street build or stock ECU build anyway and is more in the realm where you should be getting custom pistons made for your build.

The pistons they rate at 9:1 are actually over 10:1. These wouldn't get you quite as much compression as my custom pistons or the ones that oldskewltoy had designed but they are dang close.
They are also a great alternative to the 10.3:1 OEM high comp pistons.
With some effort you can get these pistons up to around 10.9:1 compression with a stock combustion chamber. Higher than that if you shaved the head.

The 16 valve pistons can be found here.
