Could someone point me to info on installing a 20-valve in an ae82? The basics- transmission, motor mounts, etc, look the same, but I'm concerned about hoses and throttle linkage and the like. Thanks.

There should be fair amount of info. Original transmission will mount so if you do that, the mounts are the same. The front engine (right side) mount keep the 20v, it should bolt up. If you're trying to fit the 6 spd then I can't help you with that. Oh, look for bellhousing that has the starter hump on intake side. If you keep original 20v header, original starter doesn't fit on exhaust side. You can use supercharged MR2 starter for intake side. I recall getting creative with some of the water pump lines. I think original throttle cable works fine, just get a little creative with the brackets. I took original 4AGE clips that hold the cable housing above the block and bolted them to the 20v head in approximately the same locations.
Hoses, with original OEM location radiator, I got some hoses from Napa and trimmed them, fit almost perfect. Check my post for the part #: http://www.studionewmedia.com/blog/index.php/2016/06/20/hosed-and-belted/
Since that post, I have replaced the crank pulley with 16v so I could use full width belts. The 20v pulley doesn't line up, so you either want to run all 16v accessories and pulleys, or all 20v. For the actual part #'s, you'll need to experiement. My setup is OEM 16v p/s pump, OEM idler for non-a/c. Water pump is OEM 16v and alternator, but the alternator mounting is not quite OEM so OEM spec belt length is probably wrong.
I can't help you with heater hoses, I'm not running heater.
For fuel hose I ended up using Russell kit for Honda with the 90degree bend but a longer hose section. Trimmed down one of the intake manifold studs for more clearance.

The wiring is the big deal. You need to merge the 20v wiring with your 16v. And the 20v wiring is designed to go through firewall on left side, so when you route it on the right for US, you need to lengthen wires.

Thanks for the info and the link. I did a whoop-de-do rebuild on a stock 4age, and what could go wrong did go wrong. I'm looking now at getting a jdm silvertop and installing that. I was thinking I could use it entire, deleting the a/c. I see the starter is under the intake. Does it need to be moved, or can I leave it be? I see what you're mentioning about the wiring loom being on the left side, and having to lengthen the harness.

I've heard if you modify things you can get the starter to fit on the exhaust, but its a lot nicer on the intake side. Your starter doesn't get fried. I got my non-a/c p/s idler bracket from Toyota parts, but it may be getting hard to find, although engine parts still seem to be fairly available. You do need to grind one of the brackets to clear the 20V timing belt cover flange. I think it was the p/s bracket.
Oh, and if you're using stock ECU, open it as soon as you get it and check the capacitors. Theres probably a 90% chance they are leaking and bad. Easy fix for someone with decent basic electronics skill if it hasn't corroded through any of the traces. And if they haven't leaked, consider yourself super lucky and change them now because they will soon! I also saw mention somewhere that the ST VVT pulley is discontinued from Toyota parts. I guess I better go find somewhere with stock and buy it. Those pulleys have a high probability of being bad also. They (and mine) still usually work, but is really noisy and clicky, sounds almost like a diesel. I think you can use a BT Pulley but might need to modify some things.
Try to get the exhaust all the way to the single pipe. I didn't have that but got a kit from SV3Power made for MR2 that fit well, but I heard SV3Power might stop making stuff. Ugh, just looked at their website and they are closed until further notice.
If you get the 20v with transmission but want to keep original transmission, you can swap just the bellhousing. Later corollas also have bellhousing with the starter hump on both side so you can probably source a bellhousing from junkyard. You could use the whole junkyard transmission, but ideally you want the FX16 or GTS transmission, most junkyard transmissions are going to be regular 4AFE/CE transmission with tall gears.
