4ac engine bog

Postby FunkyXae86 » Wed Jul 05, 2017 3:54 am

Hi i just replaced my 4ac clutch with a kit. my motor isnt putting out power. i can accelerate and no power is transfered. im not sure what is going on. could it be the fuel or maybe what i changed. i was showing my brother how to drift when i exploded a bearing in my transmission. so i just changed the whole clutch plate and pressure plate and bearings. but still nothing. when i floor it it bogs down and dies. any help would be apprecieated

Perhaps we should break this down into bite size chunks ?

1. First the clutch. I gather you bought a clutch kit which included a new clutch
plate, pressure plate and throwout bearing. You changed all of these, put the
tranny back in the car, connected everything up, and now the clutch...
(A) Works as normal, or
(B) Does not work at all ?

2. Second, the exploded bearing in your transmission. Was this...
(A) The spigot bearing in the center of the flywheel, or
(B) The throwout bearing which pushes against the pressure plate, or
(C) The gearbox input shaft bearing on the front of the gearbox, or
(D) Something else ?

3. Third, the motor not putting out power. Does this mean...
(A) The motor starts and runs but when you engage the clutch to start the car
moving, the car does not move, or
(B) The motor starts and runs and when you let the clutch out the car tries to
move but it has no power and stalls, or
(C) The motor starts and runs, and when you let the clutch out the car starts
to move as normal, but when you try to accelerate, the motor bogs down and dies, or
(D) Something else ?

More information is always better when asking for advice. And you will have more
chance of getting good advice if you provide an accurate description of the problem :)

ok thanks for the reply. 1) the clutch works fine. it can move but when i give it more gas it bogs down and shuts off. 2) It was the little bearing in the flywheel. 3) C The motor starts and runs, and when you let the clutch out the car starts
to move as normal, but when you try to accelerate, the motor bogs down and dies. I really need to get this figured out. im sick of driving my backup car to and from work...

How does the engine run if you free rev it in neutral ?

If it starts fine and runs fine without any load on the engine, then the first
thing to check would be the ignition timing. Did you happen to move (or remove
and then reinstall) the distributor ?

ill check that tomorrow to see. the only thing i can think of is that when i removed the transmission mounts and everything the engine tipped back and maybe moved the distributor a bit. The distribtor is already close to the firewall as it is with it sitting normaly. i did recently put a new cap, rotor and wires. but it ran fine until i changed my clutch and stuff.
