Could a newer Corolla ECU be made to work?

Postby Sprite » Fri Mar 10, 2017 2:55 pm

At the local Pick and Pull I saw a cheap 2001 Corolla ECU laying about and got to thinking. I wondered if it could be made to run my Silvertop? Probably more work than it would be worth. I guessed I would have to ditch the AFM for a MAF at bare minimum, tons of pin out changes too I guess. Just a thought, I can get into real trouble with too much time on my hands in a salvage yard.

I suppose anything is possible, but I would think it would be so much work that it would be just as easy and better to use a standalone. I imagine the flow rate and fuel maps for a 20v would not be close to a 2001 Corolla. The rev cut in the 20v is quite high, the 2001 Corolla I would figure to be lower since I think its the 1ZZ-FE. You might get it to run, but I'm pretty sure it wont run well. Not even going into whether all the sensors could be made to work or not.

Definitely not worth the trouble unless you are very bored. You'd probably have to swap injectors too.

a few have ran their 4AGE using 4AFE electronics(cheap & plentiful). Got rid of the 4ag AFM and ran 4afe MAP sensor instead
dunno how ITBs would like it tho, or the lower ecu redline
Mitsu DSM electronics run a 482hp street starion 2.6 SOHC, and a street nissan ka24de 2.4L just under 700hp!
So its possible to run other motor ECUs.... has to b well thought out tho
