Where is here? Europe? join aeu86.org, they are a European AE86 site. Many members there have had very good machine work performed, its just a bit tougher to find sometimes

Hey guys. Just to let you know I am alive and kicking. Started ordering parts, some are already here, investing in tools, money is being burnt fast.

I have been looking into part coatings and found this company called camcoat and already exchanged some emails with them. I bought a compressor and spray gun anyway so I am looking into the possibility of ordering some of their stuff.
I am mainly interested into their exhaust manifold coatings and thermal barrier coatings for piston crowns and combustion chambers and valve faces. When bought in retail packaging and diy applied the stuff isnt too expensive. I would use the old pistons as learning material :)

Questions:
What do you think, should I even bother with this considering that I am doing pretty much a stock rebuild?
I thought that since I am upping the compression and am using taiwan pistons maybe the thermal barrier thing would help against detonation, carbon buildup etc. Make a durable stock engine even more durable?
Should I bother with the exhaust manifold? as far as I noticed it isnt cracked but its all brownish with rust, what should I do with it? sandblast it and leave it?
They also have stuff for piston skirts. Even more useless for me?

Don't bother. Under almost any & every condition

nope.

nope & leave it alone except to see that its faces are straight.

yep!

Hey man,

I have ordered:
aisin oil and water pump
arp bolts for the conrods
oem toyota head and main cap bolts
blacktop flywheel
a bunch of other bits and bolts
i have the oem full rebuild gasket set, the pistons and piston rings from before

I have also ordered a c50 transmission rebuild kit, fith gear fork and hub and the fifith gear itself.

So far so good. Getting ready to start restoring parts and then putting it all together. Having fun.

More stuff coming in.
This time its the lovely blacktop flywheel. I was really looking forward to it.

Some info on weight and other stuff and side by side pictures of the blacktop and bigport flywheel i anyone is interested: http://www.driving4answers.com/shopping ... -flywheel/

The next step will be to remove the rust with some wire brush and sandpaper action. After that I will get it resurfaced and then balanced. its gonna be great :)

Just to check in and let you guys know I'm not dead :)

All the parts have arrived. Just waiting for the water and oil pumps from yoshi.

Been busy and restored the dizzy heat shield, spark plug valley cover, EGR assembly and had the blacktop flywheel from bk resurfaced. Below are step-by-step videos with details of all the rust removal, paint stripping, painting with high temp paint and paint baking. Learned a lot in the process and am satisfied with the results considering its my first time doing this. The engine bay will definitely look much nicer. I plan to restore every bit like this.

Here it is. As a conclusion to this old thread. Sorry to revive it but I think this is an adequate way of putting it to bed :)
