Replacing stock exhaust manifold.

Postby evanstewy » Mon Jan 21, 2013 1:56 pm

My exhaust manifold is cracked and needs to be replaced. I will be keeping the motor mostly stock and will never be going over 150hp. So should I just replace the stock manifold or go with an aftermarket option? If aftermarket then can you point me in the right direction to purchase one. :)

Stock headers! No cracks with heat shield and you should be fine. I believe there is a member selling a exhaust manifold for $60 here on club should check it out!

If you're in an area where you need to do a smog inspection, you may be forced to go with a stock manifold. In California, for example, there are no aftermarket exhaust manifolds or headers that are CARB certified for use on the road, so we have to run the stock manifold in order to be legal. If you're in that boat, your best bet will be to find a shop that can weld cast iron and have them drill both ends of the crack and have them weld the crack up. That's probably cheaper than buying a new header too.

Yeah most def. unless you can run a ok exhaust.

I'm not running stock. And also hooked on too a cat dummy to a magnaflow exhaust. Not too loud.

But. That wasn't the real worries about bar lol. The fact that a corolla is a old car can get you picked off for a random smog check. Didn't get much in trouble since smog guys and highway patrol knew what kind of car the ae86 is. Only realy trouble is getting it smogged once they pop the hood and see aftermarket no Bueno lol. But I haven't seem to have problems since then I'm just lucky I guess lol
