1.8 VVT-Li in an ae82

Subject line about says it all. Anybody try such a thing? I bought a Vibe gt w/that engine, and it does have the power. Just looking it over, it seems kinda the same as the 1.6 4age.

Ive been wondering about the same for an AE92. i have a 07 corolla with a 1.8 and it is pretty peppy...

I don't know anything about swaps, but I would guess since you are going FF chassis to FF chassis, it shouldn't be that bad. I.E., I'm sure you can keep your subframe, but I don't know about mounts. Worst scenario you'd have to custom fab mounts. Also, wiring will probably be a bitch going from a 1983 chassis to a ~2000's.

Also, spark is different. If I'm not mistaken, those later VVTs use COPs. So you'd have to find a way to modify the chassis harness to send the spark properly to COPs.

I don't know, just wait for the smart people to post lol.

From what I can see on the remaining Malaysian and other far eastern forums, they would just take out the old engine and its harnass out. From the donor car they would yank its engine and harnass out and just transfer those into the recipient car. The headache(s) would be the fitment and the engine's ECU used for your market.

Why I said that it's because of the 5 different ECUs for the same engine for different market....................

Having spent some time now with the VVT-l engine, I'm kinda disappointed. It has the power, but it doesn't have the spirit. It's dead below 3 grand, and noisy and thrashy above that. 6th gear is pretty much useless unless you live in Iowa or some similarly flat place. Fuel economy is so-so; 26 to 30 mpg on premium. I'm going to stick with the 4age. As I was explaining to a friend raving about his MB450, the thrills start at a much lower speed for me.
