Postby dbook101 » Thu Jan 26, 2017 7:09 pm

alright so I just purchased a ae82 and I'm looking for some good builds, its pretty slow. first I'm looking to lower it and maybe even camber the wheels, since the car is slow af. ill probably try and make it for show. does anyone have recomondations on what to do or where to find after market parts?

Skies the limit on the engine.
Aftermarket on anything else for AE82 you'll need to get creative. About the only thing you can find is SuperPro poly bushings. Suspension there are a few kits that might fit. Front brakes you can fit on AE92 disc & calipers if you ditch the dust shield.

Suspension is a bit difficult to source for the AE82. Look to Whiteline, Australia, for the bushings and sway bars. BC makes a set of struts that do well enough. Install longer wheel studs/lugs for using spacers, cranking the camber without changing wheel offset will get you polishing the struts. Even using MR2 triangle wheels was tight with -1* camber on the crash bolts. Then the BC struts come with camber plates. As far as the engine goes? Where do you live? What kind of restrictions do you have to deal with? I'm in California and the smog laws are stupid! Mods have to be done with that in mind. The AE82 is light and does great with a snappy engine. Build it light so it revs FAST! Does make a difference in that chassis.

As far as the AE82 being a slow car. What trim level do you have? FX, FX16, FX16GTS? The FX would come with a 4AC and the others with a 4AGE. The 4AC would be slow, especially with an auto trans.

I loved my little GTS, but had to make up my mind on that or my AW11. The winner was the 2. It had a "stock" engine with WEB camshaft 294 cams, straight intake with a SARD sport EX filter and a light flywheel. the exhaust was 2 1/4" with all the suspension parts I mentioned above. It was just too much fun to drive.
One shot, one kill.

It's a good idea to have a spare FX16! Parts are near impossible to find anymore.

I have a sedan as well. (Sprinter GT) they seem to be harder to find than the FX hatches

The FX hatches tend to work their way to enthusiasts. The sedans were just considered economobiles and tended to be treated as such. My FX16 is a awesome fun rallyX vehicle. I keep breaking driveshafts though.
