4age camshaft max lift??

Postby turboae92 » Tue Oct 21, 2014 5:34 pm

Hi, I been thinking a lot about 4ag head and how to improve the airflow on turbo setup.I seen that when a super high lift camshaft is used the upper lifter bore must be grind off to avoid contact. My question is what's the max lift height before having to grind head?? This will help others that are looking for similar camshafts and do not want to remove head .

1. Been thinking about 264 degree cams with around 10 - 10.5 mm lift.

2.Supertech single spring kit which offers the best seat pressure and higher camshaft lift possibility when compared to hks and TRD single spring kits.
Part Number: SPR-TC25SType: Single SpringPress.Seat: 55 @ 35.40Press.Open: 130 @ 10.5Max Lift: 14.40mmCoil Bind: 21.00mmRate: 7.60mmRetainer: RET-2500/T1+Seat SS-3012Details:View MoreOutSpr.OD: 25.00mmOutSpr.ID: 18.00mm

3.Yaris solid bucket lifter conversion.

I don't know for sure but Kelford sells a shelf cam with 11mm of lift and no mention of required modification.

On that note have you considered trying a shelf option such as the 193HV-T Camshaft?
I think staying as small as 264 but trying to go so high on lift is going to be very much a scale of diminishing returns.
That's even assuming you have portwork and supporting mods to try to take advantage of the high lift.
High lift short duration will also wreak havoc on your valvetrain.
If you really want to push it you would be better off increasing the duration, increasing the redline and try to make power up in the higher RPM.
What have you done so far?
What kind of power are you making?
What are your goals?

The Toda springs are good for about 10.5mm of lift - http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/ ... gspecs.jpg

Because castings vary some... I've found 10.00 mm to pass in 2 applications, but is VERY close and they MAY hit on a head that has any extra material - viewtopic.php?f=13&t=9447

So, if push came to shove... I'd say you can run 9.90mm of cam lift without worry....

Yoshi
I really like those cam specs, I was thinking sending my camshaft to get grind with does specs.I am a bit afraid of the duration since I like a good idle, brake assist, and might be a nightmare to tune.I had crower 272 duration 8.1 lift with no degreeing and it was horrible.i like the idle sound of shorter duration camshaft (256-264).Yoshi my idea is have a street car with some low end torque cause who likes to not have it. Will be running decent amount of boost 17-20 psi , with this amount of boost I must be able to let air in & out quick if not EGT rises quick ,detonation appears. My ae92 head has slight port cleaned up, hks spring and stock valves.

About two days ago I sent toda an email for specs but no answers from them.Good to know they they handle 10.5 lift at a cheaper price than supertech.I really like the specs on this cams look good all around. With 110 cam angle separation I could keep my brake pedal effort the least.Do you know the price on this jewels???

Ted's also has valve springs, but their seat pressure is over 60#s

http://www.tedcomponents.com/4ag.htm - $650 Canadian

Good prices for the cams and springs. Why did you not use the solid buckets on the 4age head you did?? Do you know any trick that we don't??

nope.... I was worried too... still am in fact. I contacted Ted's and they told me those cams will work with stock shim-over buckets.

If you saw OST-026 you'd see the client uses the 1SZ buckets - viewtopic.php?f=7&t=10783

Also... the 1SZ buckets are not easily available in the USA. If you read OST-026 you'll see we had to wait to get the buckets.....

Is the motor running a turbo setup or NA?? If solid lifters are not need then that even better the less money to be tossed.Must people say that it's needed when beyond 8.5 mm and heard that hks suggest after 9.5 mm.All that have to do with opening and closing ramps on the cams.People like Ted that been doing FA for years and know what works and dont.

I can get Supertech shim under buckets. Not real cheap but good peace of mind.

Around $24 each.
You would also need shims that are about $4 each.
