4AGZE stalling

Postby Hayden catley » Tue Jul 22, 2014 3:54 pm

Hi all. Ive just finished rebuilding my ae101 levin gtz motor and now i cant get it to drive for a proper run in at first i was not getting any spark (tested with spare lead and plug), so tried another ecu and now i can get it started but just for a few seconds until it splutters and dies, reved or not. I have checked belt timing since the motor went back in and set the ignition timing with a timing light. Also with both ecus when i try connecting the jumper wire and pulling diagnostic codes the check light just flashes continously and fast, no pauses or anything. I dont know whats wrong with it so any ideas or help would be much appreciated. Thanks

9 times out of 10 this is related to the AFM and COR.

Is this a MAP or AFM GZE?

If it's AFM make sure it's hooked up and that there are no big intake leaks anywhere after the AFM.

Depending on year 4agze may be the distributor or crank position sensor on the head (cas).

Its a 1993 model AE101-ACMXR and if it was the cas, would i of still been able to set the ign timing? Its showing 10 degrees before tdc with jumper wire in. Its able to idle at the moment but any throttle kills it and cant go above about 3000 rpm. It sounds like the timing is out but i know the belt timing isnt for sure as i have checked twice and taken photos. When starting it sometimes backfires and coughs but other times fires up ok. How could i test the cas? Other wise ill be buying a third ecu to try.

Thanks

Don't know much about the 4agze electronics I've only own na ones.vast igniter system has a sort of home limp feature which keep the ignition at 10 degrees so it may be the same on yours.try setting up the timing gun and check if timing advances.

Yes the timing does advance with revs.
