Need help from suspension guru'a

Postby jrae82 » Mon Apr 28, 2014 1:52 pm

I'm in the process of replacing my tokico aw11 shock on my ae82. The tokico shock body length is 14.500 inches. I'm thinking about getting sw20 agx rears to replace the tokico. The sw20 agx are 14.000 inches in body length. So my question is since the sw20 rears are .500 inches shorter then the aw11 tokico. can I put a .5 inch spacer at the bottom of the sw20 agx?? By putting the spacer would it comprise the performance of the sw20 agx shocks?

Without digging into it, I can't see that a 1/2" spacer under
the insert will be a problem. So long as the suspension bottoms
out on the bumpstops or coil binds before the shock reaches
the end of its stroke... you are fine.

A 1/2" spacer at the top robs you of 1/2" of stroke. So in 99% of
cases the spacer should go at the bottom. The only time a top
spacer would be useful, would be if you wanted to shorten the stroke
a fraction to help keep a loose spring captive. If you have compared
stroke length between the two inserts, and the extended length and
stroke are comparable, go with the bottom spacer !!
