Re: Finally found my eight six
Thanks for the kind words, a lot of work but definitely worth it by far one of my most rewarding projects to date. Now I just need to get the bumpers and rear trunk garnish thing repainted and I'll cruise it like that until I figure out what the motor plans will be, also want to find more info about...

Re: Skid pad rating? and handling questions.
What area of the country are you in? Make sure you check out club roadster and any local autocross forums you might have, best of luck to you sir, I know I would have a hard time passing up on a 500 dollar eight six but that almost seems way too good to be true.

Re: Skid pad rating? and handling questions.
Believe me if its been sitting for a while you'll be changing a lot more than just the motor just be prepared for it, I find it hard to believe a Miata would be harder to find but maybe there's just a ton of miatas out here. But even just swapping a 4agze I don't think would be competitive with an s...

Re: Skid pad rating? and handling questions.
Around 200whp is fairly easy and inexpensive for the 1.8 motors in a Miata, it's hard to say how competitive it would be with your brothers sw20 without knowing more about it and you both as drivers but the 1.8 motors handle boost very well and finding a clean Miata for cheap is easy where it took m...

Re: Skid pad rating? and handling questions.
For a more competitive track car honestly I'd go with a miata, parts are way more plentiful and much cheaper if your not in love with the AE86 chassis it probably isn't worth the headache one that's been sitting in a barn with no motor is going to be but just my .02

Re: newbie question
If you are capable of doing most of the work a complete overhaul on my GT-S came out too $2090 in parts, to have somebody else do it that figure would be closer to $4500 if not more. It drives like a dream now though.

Re: AE86 Transmission rebuild
Hey buddy how goes the search? Talked to an old friend in Riverside who had some solid shop suggestions other than that I all my California friends are in Vallejo, let me know if I can be of any help...side note those six speeds are pure sex definitely my next purchase....

Re: Finally found my eight six
So it finally decides to rain the last two days really making it difficult to get a good wax on it but here she is now mechanically perfect, $2090 of parts later....not including the coils.

Re: AE86 Transmission rebuild
Since you in SoCal, I would call Cabe toyota in long beach and ask Herb(parts department) if he has any recommendations. I've only had my eight six for a couple months and he's been infinitely helpful sourcing parts, and helping me with any questions I've had while finishing up this part of my proje...

Re: Japanese Classic Car Show 2014 - Queen Mary, Long Beach
Every SVX was originally equipped with an auto transmission. However, a google search revealed that some people have performed diy manual conversions. That explains it then...I've only ever seen two of them, but I have always had a soft spot for them so many cool features like the split windows and...

Re: Finally found my eight six
That would be awesome! My email is zacmathis@gmail.com if you want to send me your PayPal info, and I'll probably be doing a different exhaust at some point so I'll keep you posted on the stock manifold.

Re: Japanese Classic Car Show 2014 - Queen Mary, Long Beach
Awesome pictures! I'll have to make the trip to SoCal seems like your guys 86 scene is much better than what we have goin in Tucson, as for the SVX, manual is super rare automatic id put at uncommon but I do live in the land of no rust not sure how many have survived elsewhere. As soon as I find a m...

Re: Finally found my eight six
The rest of its just not in there at the moment, finally got her started but it looks like the air flow meter is shot. Found one on eBay for 60 bucks should be here Monday or Tuesday and it'll be done with stage one of the restoration, I'll probably put everything I do after that in a separate build...

Re: Finally found my eight six
http://i60.tinypic.com/24y1f87.jpg Got the tie rods done and the tranny back in with the new shift fork, now just to rewire the starter and alternator since they were just ripped out of the car apparently, then just reinstall the radiator and hoses and I should finally be driving it.

Re: Finally found my eight six
I got the car with the tranny and driveshaft removed so I started with the rear diff seals and worked my way forward while the replacement clutch and flywheel were en route. Needed a water pump and timing belt as well which is when I found the crank pulley was cracked, cool $400 for one of those at ...

Finally found my eight six
After years of bad timing and availability keeping me from owning an eight six, I finally scooped up an 87 gts coupe. It was advertised as needing a clutch and I managed to get it at what I thought was a reasonable price at the time, I have since found out that it needed quite a bit more than a clut...
