vacuum ports for carburetor synchronizer?

Haha I'm literally using that very tool now to set my carbs on my 16v, it works a treat [emoji106]

Don't think it matters but mine are now pulling around 6 on the meter at idle

Re: KP Starlet 4age build

nice looking build... LOVE your dedication to fixing all that rust... What pistons are you using?? Just stock bottom end, in hind site I should if done the bottom end properly, but at the time it was just going to be a quick fix. Maybe when it blows I'll do it all again but go for some real power.

Advance on distributor ?

I wanted Yamaha R1 carbs as they sound the nuts..... And I had to give up my R1 due to circumstances beyond my control. It keeps a small bit of biking in my life. The hyperpak does advance/retard the timing, it's not fixed, it comes pre mapped as such so cannot be altered. The Starlet is my piece of...

Re: Advance on distributor ?

No, as I have adjustable pulleys I can optimise the timing. Where's the fun in using stock ECU.

It's my car, and it's like no other, I think this is the reason we all modify/tune our toys

Re: Advance on distributor ?

The engine is in a toyota Starlet. I'm not running a ECU as such, the hyperpak is all there is. Yes I can run with the distributor at max advance but that doesn't leave me any room for tuning when I get to the dyno. I want the dyno guys to be able to do there best with what I've brought to them, by ...

Advance on distributor ?

Left info out as I was trying to keep it simple. I'm using a hyperpak to control the ignition timing http://www.erd.co.nz/products/toyota.html It's a simple cost effective solution for the set up I'm using. The hyperpak instructions say that the STATIC timing needs to be at 15degrees BTC. That's the...

Re: Advance on distributor ?

Ok I understand the issue as I had almost exactly the same thing with some aftermarket cams. It is possible as Yoshi says, you could be a tooth out on the distributor but if yours is like mine moving to the next tooth ensured it was too far retarded at full adjustment. So what to do if this is the ...

Running Poncams using hyperpak and yamaha R1 carbs. https://vimeo.com/118353735 Click to view video It's booked in for dyno tuning in 2 weeks, just trying to get a base setting for them. Hyperpak requires 15 degrees BTC static timing, which is fully anti-clockwise without engine running on my set-up !

Been tinkering today with my setup, could anyone tell me what the maximum advance is using the original distributor and timing marks ?

The sound of the carbs is great, have always been into bikes so thought if combine the 2. It's now up and running, still fine tuning the engine, it's also booked in for a rolling road set up to get the cams etc all dialled in. Re: Auto electrician advise required please.

I now know what I had wrong. I had put the original neg back onto the new coil neg, so it was grounded so the hyperpak couldn't switch anything. Oddly by removing this I've also got 12v+ across the coil. Good spark now [emoji106] thanks very much, learning as I go. https://vimeo.com/117416851

Re: 4AG Problem

Sorry to Hi-jack this thread....

How easy is the MSD to instal with the stock distributor ?

Can I use an un-ballasted coil like a Lucas DLB105.

I'm desperately trying to find a simple affordable ignition system for my 4age Starlet running bike carbs.

Thanks.

Ok, back working on the car, hyperpak is earthed, and + supply is good 12v Coil has 10.72v when ignition is on, and when cranking 9.8v but nothing coming out from coil still ? Re: Auto electrician advise required please.

I have the alternator plug, and I think the Haynes manual I have for the starlet has wiring diagrams. So at a guess I need to join the thicker 4age cable (one from the bolt) onto the Starlet regulators output cable ? What about the other 3 from the multi plug, are those more signs I'll wires ? If so...
