Re: Newbie Here
I'd suggest that to take a step back and re-evaluate your budget versus what you hope to achieve. First you have to figure the cost of buying the car or shell that you want to build. See what is available in your area, and in what kind of cost/condition. A non-runner or unfinished project might be a...

Re: Newbie Here
Are you talking just getting a modern car with turbo already? Yes... all the cars I referred to are factory turbo, and there will be other USDM cars as well. A turbo upgrade and some larger injectors can produce good results, and all the necessary oil, water and air plumbing is already in place fro...

Re: Newbie Here
You could research 3SGTE into AE86 conversions, but that would be a crap load of work compared to just getting a 4AGZE engine, tossing the supercharger and fitting a turbo. Yoshi has all the info you need for the GZE conversion. I would prefer it over a 4AGE (bluetop/bigport) turbo conversion, as it...

Re: Newbie Here
I'm kinda new to the car scene and would like some input/advice on building my car. Hiya... as you know, this site is dedicated to the 4AG engine series, and in particular, the earlier AE86 and AW11 MR2 series cars. These are both great cars, but they do have a drawback in that they are now more th...

Re: not getting hot
Basically, the engine temperature is controlled by the thermostat. The radiator just loses heat when the thermostat allows hot water to flow out of the engine and into the radiator (or more correctly, allows cool water to flow into the engine from the radiator). As the gauge temperature sensor is mo...

Re: first time 4ag owner
Looks like you have the basics well covered :) One of the other issues with older cars is that most have done big miles, and as a result a lot of the moving parts will be worn. These may become obvious once you start driving the car every day. For example... - factory rubber suspension bushings may ...

Re: Practice drifting, basic car manuever skills
Drifting is one particular aspect of car control that has been isolated and developed into a niche sport. It is related to the 4-wheel drift that was once part of GP racing, and driver induced oversteer was the standard cornering technique for RWD rally cars. In both cases the "drift" was ...

Hiya... welcome to club4AG :) Just remember that your car is 25 years old, so don't beat on it too hard. Check that the fluids are good (brake, clutch, oil and water). The water should have a corrosion inhibitor added... if it is brown, drain and refill with distilled water and corrosion inhibitor/a...

Re: Mice in car after 1.5yrs stored, what should I do
Seems that only certain types of mice are liable to carry the virus. What animals can give people hantaviruses? Only some kinds of mice and rats can give people hantaviruses that can cause HPS. In North America, they are the deer mouse, the white-footed mouse, the rice rat, and the cotton rat. Howev...

Re: cam help
As said above, if you are running factory cams on a factory stock engine, you won't do any better than the factory cam timing. Toyota engineers went to a lot of trouble to find the best timing for the engine. If you start messing with the cam timing, chances are that the engine will not run as good ...

Re: Guidelines for Selling an AE86.
The market sets the price, so your car is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it . It's a bargaining process... a lower asking price will generate more interest and should result is a faster sale. An asking price that is too high (even though you think the car is worth it) will get less views ...

Coolant gauge should be at cold when you first start the engine, and then move to somewhere around halfway (and stay there) when the engine is fully warmed up. If the gauge moves towards HOT while you are stuck in traffic, or drops towards cold when cruising at night (or when it is cool out), the th...

I think you need a registered copy to access that calculation from Megalog Viewer. But if I enter the log data into VirtualDyno I can obtain this graph which derives the torque and power curves. http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/ae328/jondee1/VD01-3rdGear-s_zps27ae53bd.jpg With level 1 smoothing ap...

Interpreting graphs (I should have listened at school)...
Since dyno time costs a lot and log files are free, I have been looking at this graph, and trying to interpret what insight the red RPM line can offer. http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/ae328/jondee1/sample01_zpscd21ccbf.png This line graphs RPM against time. So if I remember correctly... dV/dt = a...

While talking to the operator of a Dynapack hub dynomometer yesterday, he confirmed that the dyno measures torque and rpm at the hub/s. The runs are always done in 4th gear (1:1 ratio) and once the diff ratio is entered, the dyno outputs the wheel torque and wheel power graphs. http://www.dynapackus...

Pulsed IGt signal from ECU to igniter will likely be a 5V square wave. Pulsed IGf signal from igniter to ECU will likely be a 5V sawtooth wave. These signals will be of quite short duration and you may not be able to pick them up with DMM. You may need a LED "noid light" or similar. Howeve...

Does it hunt cold and hot, or only when hot ? If it only hunts after
warming up, check your water temp sensor is connected and working.
