The ground, is that for transmission to body? I don't have an MR2, just throwing out a guess.

Re: Piston ring question

Size wise, those rings should be correct. If you're unsure about the DNJ brand, you can pick up Honda Prelude B20 piston rings by a brand like NPR. I posted about it here a while back. I do have a set of DNJ smallport pistons which I still haven't used. The quality seems OK, don't know about their r...

TTT has a set available for under 200 bucks. I have what I think is an older set of those (bought them used/good condition a few years ago). It looks like the newer one has an aluminum gear (the part in contact with the timing belt), whereas the ones I have use what looks like a modified stock (ste...

I'd add to this -- get a quality set of cam gears. Lately there's been a pic floating on Facebook of someone's grenaded cam gears. I'm guessing (not sure) that they were China specials.

Physically it will fit, though there are some differences. Green, round plugs (AE86 & MR2?) vs grey, squared plugs (AE92 only?). I believe the two types also have different caps, and the plug wires are a different size. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I thought ARP made that shorter stud also slightly thinner to allow more oil around it? Although I'm sure machining out the hole will improve flow no matter what.

I'll never get tired of seeing your porting work!

Very cool!

Do you know what kind of power you're getting at the crank and to the wheels? I imagine a little more than a stock smallport.

Judging by that flywheel (and the size of the gearbox), that is most likely an E series gearbox. Starter is also on the intake side. I think the C series gearbox starters are all on the exhaust side.

Interesting piston design. I like the concept, and I'm curious to hear how it does! The Molnar rods -- no thrust side oiling hole, or side slot (like the BT rods)? I'm guessing those aren't the custom 40-20 rods that Orion had, based on the crank pictured above. My set of Orion 40-20 rods don't have...

OK thanks! The beauty of this is it doesn't modify any of the oem wiring, you can disconnect the new stuff and plug the OEM wire connector back together to restore to stock. This is what I like most about your idea. I want to avoid cutting up factory wiring as much as possible. It works because the ...

Re: serching for e series parts

True, I didn't think of that. I believe all E series bell housings (except the newer 6 speeds) can be interchanged with other E series casings (or whatever the rest of it is called). There's also the Corolla All-Trac which came with a 4A-FE, but it is an AWD gearbox, and the starter is on the intake...

Re: serching for e series parts

MR2 turbo, if that's the 2nd gen it's a 3S-GTE. So an A engine probably won't fit that bell housing. Although looking up the E153, it seems it's used on both the Camry V6 (1MZ-FE) and the 3S. Odd that the same trans is used for both engines. Unless the bell housings are different.

There's also at least two different smallport IMs. The JDM one as pictured above, with no EGR port, and the USDM (elsewhere too possibly) one that has the EGR port. It's located on the oval sort of area to the left of the TB and directly below the top ribbing. In the middle of that you can see a cir...

Re: 1988 Corolla FX16: Couple questions about A/C, P/S and fuel pump relay

My hard start (and many Corollas of our vintage) suffer from the ignition key switch. The starter solenoid is triggered directly through the switch, its a fair amount of current going through it. And as the switch wears its resistance goes up and drops too much voltage too feed the starter enough. ...

Post a pic of the top of the TB. There are small vacuum lines that come out from there. I believe the USDM TB has more vac lines than the JDM TB.

What manifold was this from, bigport or smallport?

I thought the Group A 4A-GE in Initial D was a Silvertop? It's been a while since I watched the show, though. I remember he blew the 16v going against a Lancer Evo. And right around that time Bunta was talking to his friend about his "special purchase" engine.

The joys of mass-produced parts (head casting)

OST's recent post of his OST-39 work brought this back to mind. So recently I started the long process (because I like to take my time on projects) of removing the engine & gearbox from my AE95. I decided to pull the intake manifold to make it easier to separate the engine from the gearbox, whic...
