Re: Where to buy (specific) turbo? GT2554
We would need more info to be of much help. There are a lot of T25 turbos out there. Just because it's not a 2554 doesn't mean it wouldn't bolt up and just because it is a 2554 doesn't mean it will. Even off Garretts website the same turbo designation can have different flanges. Their 2554 doesn't h...

Re: Future Build Components
If I reuse my 252/260 cams, i'm assuming the extra compression will help them out quite a lot? Currently its 10:2 but hoping to go for 11:8 11.8:1 is pretty high for a mild cam.... you might try plugging your engine #s in to a DCR calculator to see about what your DCR is... as a reference, Skippy's...

Re: Future Build Components
A lot might mean different things to different people. It should make a notable improvement if you can keep it from detonating. If I had to wager a guess I'd say maybe 10 hp. That compression bump should net you more if you could keep the same max MBT ignition timing but that is a lot of compression...

Right on.
Let me know what you find out. I can get things like rings for most pistons.
I just sent you a PM BTW.

Re: Future Build Components
I know someone in the UK who should be able to get you a used but inspected 42mm crank. He might also be a resource for other parts you need or possibly even with the build it's self. He doesn't really frequent the forums anymore but if you want me to put you in touch with him shoot me an email and ...

Re: 7afe/4afe obd2 pump vs early 4age pump
Ah I see In that case I believe it should be fine as long as you don't run squirters. I believe the higher volume pump was made for the 4A in preparation for the squirters being added. I would definitely try to use the wave shaped gear but it sounds like that is the one you are interested in so I'd ...

Re: 7afe/4afe obd2 pump vs early 4age pump
The big question is why are you comparing anything to the early 4A pump?
Just run the late pump. OPT-036. It has the bigger gear.

Re: Future Build Components
As already said there is no such thing as an NA or SC crank. There is only an early 40mm crank and after about 86/87 the 42mm crank that every 4AGE after that ran. If you walk into Toyota and ask for a crank for a 1988 MR2 NA and a 1988 MR2 SC they will hand you two identical cranks with two identic...

Re: Future Build Components
We also have our valve springs. They are a little cheaper and great for most cams up to about 10mm. http://www.matrixgarage.com/products/matrix-garage-16v-valve-springs You do however want to be careful with oversized valves. People often don't realize how much the mass of a valve effects it. Oversi...

What compression ratio? 9:1 What kind of fuel will you be using? I don't know, what is your recommend? Stock cams? Yes I followed the manual, but like I said, this is my first rebuild and assemble, so I am not sure 100% right. Is there anyway to check before put the car on dyno? Should I bring it t...

Re: 4age turbo question.
What compression ratio? What kind of fuel will you be using? Stock cams? It is definitely possible to make this kind of power on stock cams but it's also definitely well above what i would want to use stock cams for. It's kind of hard to answer your question because yes in a sense it is easy to blow...

Re: 4age turbo HELP!!!!
Easy Jinx I'm all for discussions but childish name calling is not acceptable on this board whether it's to me or anyone else. Like I said trim means nothing as to turbo size. I never correlated them to being a pet or model name. As I already said, a 50 trim turbo could make 50 hp or 5000 hp. I have...

Re: 4age turbo HELP!!!!
T3/T4 turbo sizing is as simple as it gets. They're tried and proven old dogs I think the question was about a plain old T3. Its not the same as a T3/T4(hybrid) at all Lots of T3s have provided excellent performance on street 1.6 L. They can be upgraded to monster for low dollar if wanted I posted ...

Re: 4age turbo HELP!!!!
Why such low compression? It will be very hard meeting your goal on stock cams. Personaly for 300 HP I would go about 10:1 on pump gas with a 272 or so cam. Like I already said you could look for Evo 16g turbos. If you do run that low compression and stock cams you will need a ton of boost so someth...

Re: 4age turbo HELP!!!!
I have never been a fan of T3/4 turbos although I will admit it's mainly because I find their nomenclature and size terminology confusing and pretty weak so I never bothered getting familiar with them. I can't say anything bad about the turbos. I just find it much easier to discuss GT, MHI and other...

Re: 4age turbo HELP!!!!
This would be a T25. A good size for up to around 200WHP or so. I do not like the 300ZX turbos because the outlet flange is different than any other T25. This means if you ever decide you want a different turbo you will have to redo your downpipe. If that's not a concern and if your goals are under ...

Re: 4A-GZE supercharged - more power options for Lemons!
You would gain more power from the compression than you would the displacement because the supercharger is fixed displacement so it is largely regulating the amount of air going into the engine. This does mean that your boost would be lower though. This means cooler air temps and a small gain becaus...

Re: 20v ST redline at startup
Make sure the dashpot between the throttles is hooked up to a vacuum source. That dashpot holds the throttles closed. It is not enough to make it rev higher than about 2500 on it's own but combined with another issue could contribute. Or if there is something else preventing the vacuum from going lo...

Re: 20v ST redline at startup
I agree, I don't think there is anything that could allow that much air to get in except for the throttles being held open or a big hole after the butterflies, like the ISC or brake booster port or other big port being completely disconnected. Even those I wouldn't expect to let it go to redline. Yo...

Re: 4A-GZE supercharged - more power options for Lemons!
The issue with cheap components is consistency, accountability and standards. It's possible that this company has as high or higher standards than ACL, King, Clevite etc but it's extremely likely they don't. It'very likely that if you measured the thickness of 100 of their bearings vs 100 of ACLs yo...

You say you didn't have excess oil in the pan. Does this mean the oil level was where it was supposed to be? This is not a totally uncommon thing for some endurance motors to see but it's not the motor. It's likely a weak spot or a couple in the build. One thing that can really help is more drainage...

Haha well considering the hKs used to go for almost as much per cam as mine do for a set and considering they are getting rare I wouldn't be surprised if they cost you almost as much as mine or Tomei or something new. Jiinx is probably right though haha.

Valve clearances are all okay. These were done when my head was rebuilt
If you are interested in buying new I should be able to get you into something that would put a bigger smile on your face than those HKS.

As suggested you might try playing with the cam timing. Those are tiny cams so with your small compression bump the low end should feel similar to stock.

Re: TVIS & Bigger Cams
The TVIS should always be a benefit to low end. The only reason to remove it is when the whole intake becomes such a restriction to top end performance that it's worth sacrificing the low end losses for much more top end with a completely different manifold setup or ITBs.

SPG was big in the VW arena. Stock VW cranks had a single "gland nut" to hold the flywheel to the crank. To keep the crank and flywheel on the same page VW put 4 little dowels in place. 4 dowels failed miserably when you pumped up the engine. SPG made roller bearing cranks, among other th...
