Re: Restoring AE86 w/ 4AGE 16v + HKS ITB + Haltech E6X

Is a small leakage common in old brake boosters... nope. and with the brakes, it will just get worse, until you try to stop and the pedal is rock hard, and you have to use your entire body to slow down just a little bit. I had a booster fail at a track day, that was NOT fun at all. you've found that...

Re: gauge wire from harness to fuel pump

I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure it's 16ga or 18ga stock. I personally see no harm in using 14ga, as it just gives a bit more surface are for current to flow, especially if you're running an upgraded pump.

Re: TVIS & Bigger Cams

my TODA cams ended up giving the absolute best performance at 0° adjustment, for both of them. what I DID end up adjusting, was 4°ignition advance, and 4psi of fuel pressure. What Oldeskewl said regarding the valve clearances.. I think it's very important. When I did mine, all the intake were identi...

I'm running a 7-rib largeport, with first oversize (0.5mm, .020") 10.3:1CR pistons (storm GSi spec) TODA 264°int/256°exh (don't remember the lift, either 7.9 or 8.5, but it's NOT the 9.0), stock ECU, and 8mm TRD headgasket. If the head comes off, I'll put on a 6mm for that much more fun. Runnin...

I just took a piece of aluminum plate and some FIPG, and sealed off the whole AAV altogether. Solved my racing idle problem, and helped get rid of a couple more hoses. HOWEVER, this was for a car that is not DD'd, but rather mostly for motorsport use. So I'd just sit in it and use the foot feed to m...

Re: front spring upper perch, help needed!

so, putting them on upside down seems to have worked for now. one strut is shot, one is almost there, and one balljoint needs replacing, so I'll do both pretty soon. But now I can turn the wheel and it's not retarded and klunking. didn't take it for a drive, it's about 4 inches of salty slush in the...

Re: front spring upper perch, help needed!

yeah, I was thinking about it during the 2 hours it took to clear the snow from my driveway. better than nothing. I see it needs a new balljoint anyways, so this stuff will be coming off again, so maybe I can find good springs by then.

Thanks!

front spring upper perch, help needed!

So, I bought a clean SR5 coupe a couple weeks ago. got it running first, now addressing the suspension issues. there was a big clunking when turning, and I found that the previous owners had put lowering springs (orange, not megan, dunno what.) on, but did NOT put any upper spring seats (perches) on...

Re: Megasquirt/7AGE/Custom harness questions (Wiring Guru help!)

nice! just sort of watching and paying attention if I ever need to do some aftermarket ECU tomfoolery. I've seen other cars that have chassis ground as the sensor ground as well, most of them in fact. A friend was having an issue getting his twin-M90-LSx to run using a DIYPNP, so I looked it over fo...

Re: 4age Diypnp Rpm Sync Loss

this probably has nothing to do with your issue, but it totally reminds me of when I had a loose ground wire going to the VAF. It would fire when ign switch was in START, but as soon as the ignition was back to RUN, the fuel pump shut off, and the car just died. not sure if that's related to the cir...

Re: suspension questions

start with making sure all maintenance is up to date. bushings, end links, etc. Once you're there, start with good tires, and good brakes. Drive the car, take it to autoXes and track days, find its limits, and find if you will exceed them. Once you find those limits, you can make an informed decisio...

Re: Tips on recomending Full Exhaust System

if you don't feel like buying a pre-made shiny one, and you know a good shop, you could have them just build you one. I made this myself with 2" mandrel bends. Magnaflow cat, Cherry Bomb glasspack, and a Cherry Bomb "turbo" muffler at the end. It actually sounds good, and I have no co...

I've got 4.778:1 with a Kaaz 2-way in my GT-S. Mostly used for Autox and HPDE/Lapping/Time Attack. I will also drive it sometimes just for fun, but not generally as a DD. Running 195/60-14 Falken Azenis, I tend to be closer to 4500-5000rpm driving 75-80 on the interstate. I have a set of something b...

The interior edge trim for the sunroof sits right above the drivers head, and reduces helmet space. Removing the sunroof make more room, but that is not something I would do on a road car that only sees action requiring a helmet a couple of times a year. Cheers... jondee86 This is the exact reason ...

Re: Restoring AE86 w/ 4AGE 16v + HKS ITB + Haltech E6X

Before routing the seat belt, sit in the seat and find out how the belt will fit on an actual person, preferably the one who will drive it. In my '85 hatch, I've got a Corbeau Forza II seat, bolted to some flat stocck that's right on the floor. The seat does not slide. I have a stock seatbelt on the...

Re: A communal open letter to the previous owners of our AE8

Just a note for your future endeavors: RTV Blue is NOT something you should use to help seal a headgasket. This will only result in a blob of it blocking the single oil passage to the head, which will let the cam run dry and gall the cam carriers in the head. Oh, and when you install an aftermarket ...

I would suggest that you get on some EVO boards and see what management those guys are using when doing standalones. EvolutionM.net could point the way. quick searches show that AEM and Autronic are two complete standalones, and Buschur Racing uses the AEM, so that would be a good place to look. Pro...

Re: 16V Valves....

What effect does the Nitriding of the Supertech valves have? Nitriding is essentially a hardening of the surface of the valves; so that can perhaps wear better in the guides. I wonder if it changes the heat transfer properties, or affects the way that carbon tries to build up on the valves.?

I run ARP studs in my engine, for several years, beating the pee out of it all the time. Never had a single problem. When I put it together, I read about the issue, but it was a real easy fix. I actually shortened the stud just a bit, and rounded the edges. Here it is installed, with the distributor...
