Re: Racecar: ITA AE86 with provenance(history)

there is no engine fan, mechanical driven or electric, has made me a bit uncomfortable. David (previous owner) said it wasn't a problem, after all this is a race car , it is used on track........ As this car's purpose has changed somewhat, besides the bits I've already mentioned, I'll be adding a t...

Hmmmm.... have you confirmed that the piston is @ TDC when you are checking cam timing?? Crank key should be pointing straight up... but even that can still be off. Only way to KNOW TDC is with a piston stop, and a timing wheel. There is also something wrong in the blacktop manual (I remember a thre...

I now work for Toyota's corporate HQ in TX. Our chief Akio Toyota did a drift demo at work last Saturday in the Modern "GT86". I should have brought this car to the party <sad face>. Was hoping he'd do it in the original instead, but it was sort of a historic closure for my 25 year AE86 e...

Wow, nice to see the "build thread" here.... Bitter sweet for me of course, but glad to see it go to a good home :) I poured many, many hundreds of hours into making it what I considered to be the "Ultimate" AE86 for its race class - important to note that I built it for the spe...

I personally prefer the current livery, but you gotta do what makes you happy There is nothing wrong with it's current livery, and I do plan on keeping the back alone - leaving "Spinnetti" on the right rear of the hatch... but it's lineage goes back to early 1988, when a few TRD USA emplo...

Currently on the car it appears they are Revolution RFX wheels, with BFG Comp T/A R1 tires in 205/55/14. The second set are Panasport racing wheels, with Hoosier R6 tires, also i...

Re: Need suspension advice! Figuring out what springs would go with Tokico Illumina shocks

There is a difference between a "lowering" spring, and a performance spring. I've had springs wound for me that were about 2.5 x stiffer then the stock springs, but they rode @ stock ride height. Now the problem.... as totta corolla mentions the spring can come loose, not because it is &qu...

the crank main bearing cap split, so tomei ladders were to be added. Some advised to get a girdle instead, like hi rpm honda 4s do, because the tomeis only split with the cap(at a higher rpm tho) Some Atlantic builds use replacement caps made from higher grade steel, then use steel tie-ins across m...

Re: 500+ hp on stock bluetop cams?

just as a what do you do.........

a 4AGE intake valve is 30.5mm in diameter and that calculates out to just a bit over 1 square inch of surface. So if you are running 45#s of boost, the spring should have a seat pressure of at least 77#s..... factory minimum spring rate(32) + add in the boost(45)

in 1st post... saw car on dyno... didn't see dyno results. Not sure I believe.......... but my believing isn't the point...... Biggest problem I see is the stock camshafts... remember our cams only lift to .295" (if using the "big" stock cams), that is rather small... and the valve li...

There is another injector option........

Late 80s Honda Accord, and Prelude 2.0i engines uses low ohm (peak and hold) 240cc injectors. These are the go to injector I recommend with mild builds.

thought this thread might like a age/mileage report...... Check with Loynings , they had to put 2 oversize buckets in my race engine at last refresh. Ya don't pitch a fully race prepped cyl head cause a couple buckets bores got sloppy. quite true.... In the OP's situation a replacement head may be less costly. Your head, has a great deal of time into it a...

LOVE the work MR.TOY you think it would be possible to use bag 16v springs with these heads? I know the 16v valves can be used with a little machine shop work. I'm currently doing something similar with my F head. problem here is spring bind. As was discussed in http://club4ag.com/forums/viewtopic....
