Re: 4age on bike carbs

Gonna bump this because I did a huge update on the opening post. I decided to do it in the opening post because I think the thread might become long and I want to keep the important info up there. Hope that's ok

Re: Carbed high comp 16v build

Hey! I have some parts laying around that I thought I might put to use, so I would need some advice and tips. Partslist: Wiseco pistons (think it's their smallest oversize) HKS 264/272 cams TRD 0.8mm Headgasket New valvesprings (unsure if stock or not) I would be using these carburetors: http://www...

I have a 40mm crank that needs to be turned. It experienced quite a bit of rod knock. I am willing to sell it for very cheap if you are willing to pay the international shipping for it.

Re: 4age on bike carbs

Some of the late 90s bike carbs actually do have TPS. I have no idea why but they do. For example 1999 kawasaki zx6r carbs already have a tps on them. The question is whether it can be made to work with our stock ECU. Will probably have to buy a set of those carbs or at least a tps from them to know...

Re: 4age on bike carbs

This is something I have thought about before... why not use the factory ECU for IGNITION ONLY when an engine is converted to carbs ?? Basically it just amounts to removing the injector wiring and providing an alternative method of supplying fuel to the engine. The ECU does not monitor the injector...

I'm asking how to connect the MAP, TPS, and intake air temp sensor to the bike carb intake manifold so they work with the stock ECU.

4age on bike carbs

My engine got the knocky rods. Want to do something entertaining with the new one I'm building. Thinking about bike carbs from a kawasaki zx6r. Should be fine with my mild cams. I know many people think carbs are not a smart mod etc. need constant fiddling and adjustments etc. I agree with all that,...

Thank you jondee. You are spot on as always. It's in an at160. I kinda figured its a 3-rib too. I actually like the fact its a 3 rib with the map and no EGR. Question is how tricky will it be to get it to work in my AW11. I plan to use my head which is brand new with catcams and adjustable pulleys i...

Please identify this 4a-ge for me.

Hi guys, So I'm suspecting my 4age bigport 7-rib in my AW11 MR2 might has developed a rod knock. Not sure yet, but just in case I started looking for backup engines and found this baby on a junkyard, its 100 or so miles away from me so I got the junkyard owner to send me some pictures, they're not t...

Re: Oil pressure gauge help

The oil pressure gauge is not connected to the ECU. The single wire from the sender should be connected to a wire that runs directly to the oil pressure input on the instrument panel. Cheers... jondee86 Oh crap....does that mean I need to take out the intrument panel? or I can splice into the gauge...

Oil pressure gauge help

I have an 1987 mr2 aw11 with a working oil pressure sender and wire going from the oil pressure sender. The wire is connected to nothing. It was cliped and left hanging by the PO. Don't ask me why. I think its because a 4age bigport from a corolla was swapped, along with the harness from that car, w...

Vlave clatter or rod knock? short video

Please tell me its valve clatter. Here's what I know. - Sound seems to be coming from the head, and it seems to be coming from the part above cylinder number 4. Furthest away from the oil pump - Its not there when its cold, but it is there when the car gets pretty warm, i.e. after a bit of a drive. ...

Re: Engine noise, please help, video link

Definitely doesn't sound like rod knock to me. That is a much deeper sound coming from down low. This seems to be coming from higher up, cylinder head area.

I think jondee86 is spot on and its the intake pulley.

Another little update. T-vis definitely does not open. I do not know why. Tried driving with the vacuum hose unplugged from the t-vis diaphragm. Re: Bad fuel pump?

Thanks for the responses guys! If the engine ran better overall in cold weather, and also runs OK when cold in the "warmish" temperatures, might not be fuel pump as cold engines/cold weather typically need MORE fuel so the pump would act up then. Have you looked at the ISC valve to make su...

How do valve seats even get like this? Before I rebuilt I know my engine was sitting in the POs shed for 2 years without being started..., but when I took it apart and looked at the head the seats weren't like this at all. Was this caused a blown HG? I'm just curious.

That sounds decent. Especially with spirited driving! I did a build for economy, 4AGE awhile back. My final combination was 10.7 comp(our mid grade fuel, 89) with the intake cam being a WEB camshaft grind 294, 8.2mm lift and 246* ad/220 @ .050" with an early 4AGE OEM cam on the exhaust. Actual...

Mildy tuned 4a-ge bigport MPG

So I did a little road trip recently and made a video out of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqu9_Ae2Cm8 The video is long, but what will probably be most interesting to this forum is that I used the opportunity to calculate the MPG of my mildly modded 4AGE: Here's what I have on the engine: Cam...
