Re: Looking for AE86 Advise (Buying, Technical, Local Clubs)

Availability in arizona is pretty slim but you can occasionally find a clean one, the biggest issue I had when looking were cars with hidden damage. Most commonly front end damage or the rear quarter panels, and even my car which had been an arizona car it's whole life had a very tiny amount of rust...

Re: CEL Issues

Redid the timing again to be sure it was at 10* in diagnostic mode and 16* out of diagnostic, disconnected all associated plugs and cleaned with some crc electrical cleaner, left battery disconnected overnight CEL was gone in the morning.

Thanks pirate for the insightful response, that's what I was looking for ended up finding the diagrams I needed on Hachiroku.net, the problem has been resolved. Surprisingly not from just shaking wires around.

I think my timing could still just be a little off since the light seems to go off around peak power where the timing is most advanced.

CEL Issues

So recently had to do a brake master cylinder and while I was at it I put new valve covers on with new gaskets since I had a set which I shaved and polished. I also took this opportunity to do spark plugs and check my timing which was off a few degrees. Now the cel is on for code 6, rpm signal, the ...

Re: Speedometer/tachometer lights out. Ac panel lights out.

It was the wires right behind the kick panel fuse box, they were just exposed in a few spots so I basically had to redo half of them. I was driving home one night and my cluster and climate control lights went out, the next morning I looked at the corresponding fuse and it appeared fine but I change...

Re: Speedometer/tachometer lights out. Ac panel lights out.

When this happened to me my break lights stopped working and I had a short somewhere off the kick panel fuse box was a major pain to track down and get everything working again.

Re: AE86 Good Drivers Car?

In the 1/4 mile since that's probably the only scenario I could see an escort outgunning an 86, the fwd would probably be beneficial since it would make it lighter and suffer from less parasitic drive train loss, also why a bp in a miata would put down less power than the same motor in an escort. I ...

Re: AE86 Good Drivers Car?

I guess its video time because the Miata gets pulled by the 86 everytime, no matter who's driving what. Having never driven an escort i won't speak to how those perform. I love my miatas you really don't need to sell me on the capability of the bp motor, again it was just my .02 will my nb with the ...

Re: AE86 Good Drivers Car?

My .02, having had an NA Miata at the time of purchasing my 86. Miata was a 95 so the 1.8 which I had rebuilt with a little bump in compression, and did the same thing to the 86, a rebuild with a little bump in compression. Obviously not the same compression ratio in both cars I will say that the 86...

Were they rebuilt? I bumped the compression up a little to around 11.5:1 but that's still pretty close to what a blacktop is.

Even if you only change the pump you could still have the same issue it has to do with the actual shape of the gas tank where the pick up sits, that's the baffling saigone was talking about.

I have a buddy in Lockhaven that has a couple and he's also a miata guy as well! He's not on the forums though, I will say it's an entirely different animal than an NA miata but no less giggle inducing that's for sure.

Re: Radio, cluster and clock not working?

My speedometer started getting inconsistent recently, when I took it apart to check it out the little plastic gears in it were all worn out luckily I found some that fit at my local rc car hobby shop for around 3 bucks. If your speedometer has never worked at all though I would wager something else ...
