How to tell which Block you really have or are buying?

I bought a 4age Silvertop recently and am going to do a light rebuild to it before installing into my AE86. As far as I can tell it really is a Silvertop (head and block), but how do I tell for certain that it isn't a Silvertop head ontop of a different 7-rib block, before opening the engine up? It'...

WTB: GTS Gas tank + more...SoCal (Update 4/17/14)

No more need for a GTS tank. I picked up a complete unit (Tank, mounting straps, pump, sending unit, neck, etc) yesterday. Hopefully the install goes okay. Still looking for some other parts for my SR5 Auto to 20v manual conversion: http://club4ag.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=10980 Send me a ...

SR5 to EFI fuel system

So I am looking for a GTS fuel tank as well as Fuel Pump kits for GTS's...So assuming I get a GTS tank and I buy one of these kits but downgrade to a Walbro pump better suited to my needs (Im thinking between 100-120 LPH) rather than the 255 unit, what else am I going to need? The pumps say they hav...

SoCal (San Bernardino) late night 20v Swap Help

So anyways, I was gonna have a mechanic buddy of mine do my swap for me, but Im getting restless and paying him $600 bucks when I'm not positive how well his work will be has me second guessing it....So I am thinking I might go to harbor freight this afternoon before work and pick up some shop tools...

Picking up my 20v engine today...

So I'm picking up an engine today. Its just got pulled last night from an AE86, so it's already set up for it: Complete with T50 trans (gearbox, bellhousing, Starter, flywheel, pilot bearing, clutch, assembly, etc) as well as SQ waterline kit, Tweak'd Harness setup for COP, Coil Packs, and Velocity ...

So I have a stock SR5 auto, and I'll be swapping a 20v with a t50. The engine was just pulled from an Ae86, so its already set-up for RWD: Waterline kit, complete t50 trans (gearbox, bellhousing, clutch, assembly, flywheel, pilot bearing, starter), tweak'd harness setup for COP, Coil packs, and velo...

Re: OEM radiator with 20v?

it should be fine. but extra power causes extra shear on the fluid which heats it up faster. honestly I would be more worried about the power the trans can actually handle over overheating the engine. Yeah the drivetrain is definitely a concern of mine, but im gonna play it by ear...crossing my fin...

Re: OEM radiator with 20v?

The Rad shop made sure they got an Automatic specific rad, so hopefully it all works. haha. At first i'll try just running it stock with an electric fan(s), and see if it seems okay. If Push comes to shove and she seems like she's running hot Ill try an external trans cooler, and probably just opt f...

Re: OEM radiator with 20v?

Thanks for the input so far everyone. Alright, so i'll plan on using the new OEM radiator and probably hit up a salvage yard for a dual fan shroud and see that goes. And If I want to play it safe, get a universal transmission cooler kit. Do you think my Transmission will really get all that hot thou...

Advice for the 20v Swap

Alright, so Im trying to get everything together to make a Blacktop 4A-GE swap...on paper first so I know what I am getting into first. This is for a complete, swap ready, BLACKTOP into a pretty much stock automatic SR5 by the way! Stock Blacktop ECU, using Blacktop pumps, pullies, etc. From what I ...

OEM radiator with 20v?

I just bought a brand new OEM replacement radiator for my '84 SR5 automatic not too long ago. Now Im in the process of figuring out everything I need for the 4AGE Blacktop swap, and Im wondering about cooling. If I drive it concervatively will the OEM SR5 radiator keep the engine cool enough with an...

Re: 4A-C block with 4A-FC head?

Thanks for the reply Rogue. Yeah, I just see and use the 4A-FC used often due to the fact that most people seem to assume you mean the 4A-FE if you just put '4A-F'. Yeah, the top of the pistons would be different for sure...Still would drive, but ought to lower the CR, how much lower?...I have no id...

Re: California legal problems: swapping 4ag's

I do not ever remember reading or hearing about anything about changing the drivetrain layout and/or engine positioning. Oh and here is the link that I couldn't remember before to the CA BAR's engine swap guidelines: http://www.bar.ca.gov/80_barresources/07_autorepair/engine_change_guidelines.html

4A-C block with 4A-FC head?

Anyone know much about throwing a 4AFC head onto a 4AC block? Seems like it might be simpler than the GE head mated to the 4AC block, but I don't really have anything to go on. Is it more of a plug and play type thing compared to the GE head swap?...rather than having to work out piston sizes, shave...

Re: California legal problems: swapping 4ag's

The engine doesn't need to be a USDM motor...Foreign motors are able to get BAR'ed in as long as they have a USDM (more specifically, must have been offered in California) equivalent. So JDM 4age's are legal as long as that version of the 4AGE was offered in a US car. Therefor you can legally regist...

Re: Daily Driver...Could use some advice

The C10 Skyline is on the list for my future cars. One day Ill import one over. That wont be for quite a few years though XD. New Update

Isn't it funny that no matter how much you plan and think things out with cars, somehow it gets skewed? Anyways when I was driving to work in the Corolla this weekend, I threw a belt and started overheating...By the time I got off the freeway and parked at a gas station, it was smoking pretty bad. I...

Re: Daily Driver...Could use some advice

New Cat and Muffler are on. I think Ill take it back to the Smog test station and get another pre-test when I feel that I have broken in the Cat, before having a mechanic go over my emissions control equipment. There's a small chance that the new Cat will be enough to get me passing, and for $20 buc...

Re: Daily Driver...Could use some advice

The Updated Plan... So right now I am just trying to get it legally smogged. This week I had it inspected by 2 shops I trust (one a tire and suspension specialist, the other an exhaust and brake specialist) and had a smog test station run a pre-test and inspection as well. Needless to say it failed,...

Re: Daily Driver...Could use some advice

Just wanted to say thanks for the input so far. I will def. be having a couple of trusted mechanics go over it and see what they recommend. This will be a fairly slow build for me (basically pay check by check) and/or getting lucky at one of the pick-it-part places in the area (Luckily, they are pre...

Re: Daily Driver...Could use some advice

Thanks for the reply, and I was doing some research, and I agree that I should be fine with a Corolla GTS axle (not to mention a much easier swap than a Supra swap). Really I should be fine with the SR5 axle, but I still think i'm going to go with GTS swap....just because. haha Farther down the road...

Daily Driver...Could use some advice

So i'm kind of a newb when I comes to fixing up cars (in fact i'll be paying my mechanic friend to do most of the work to it) and I am looking to fix up my first Corolla just a bit. I have a 1984 Corolla SR5 that I want to turn into a daily driver but be fun as well. So I don't need anything too adv...
