If you can, get a transmission jack! I got to use one for the first time, and it was super helpful. It's on a threaded rod like a spare tire jack so you can adjust the height nice and slow. I just attached it to my cordless impact it made it a breeze. I still had to get the car pretty high to get it...

Re: '85 GTS build
Quick update: Replaced the center support bearing, and my motor mounts, and I did the Trans mount back when I did the clutch too. Definitely feels a little more crisp under acceleration. Still getting the "thump" when shifting in the rear though. But all the pieces I replaced needed to go ...

Re: appraisal on ae86
I don't mean high demand as in overall market, like compared to all other cars or something. I was more just poking fun at how people "want" these cars but as soon as they see how much work and $$ it takes, they start to make posts like these to try and spread what they think about the way...

Re: appraisal on ae86
This post is a joke...those prices are super inflated...you must be getting ready to sell your GT-S or something? Also, how do you figure in these prices? What facts, information do you have to support those outrageous prices? A SR5 is no where even close to being worth what you've stated...even if...

Re: appraisal on ae86
I like everything cars. The 86 can do everything. Rally specials, track, autocross, mountain runs, whatever you want. This can be said about a lot of cars friend. To be honest what you describe sounds more like a wrx wagon or something. LOL and don't worry about Takumi's car being under powered, it...

Re: appraisal on ae86
I think the prices going up is sort of a predictable progression, given the popularity and typical purpose of the car. Even "older man" mechanic says that all the GTS went to the junker waaaay back in his day, that plus fanboi dorifto destruction. Less used cheap stuff in circulation, make...

Googling around some more and saw this vid on replacing staked in "non serviceable" type U joints. The shaft in the video is from a civic wagon, but same idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_kZmzA_Bso It's obvious plenty of people have done this, rockford even has an application chart o...

20 Spline T50 Gearbox SOCAL
Bought this in a hurry and didn't take the time to count the splines. Spins smooth and shifts as it sits. 60$, local pick up only. If it doesn't sell I might just use it for rebuild practice, or see if I can steal parts from it to smooth out my current trans. But its all together and complete as of ...

Re: '85 GTS build
Not really getting notable vibration, more just the thud. Its just odd to me that its even when the clutch is pressed in and shifting, you'd think not much would be clunking around from just moving the shifter without the clutch engaged.

Re: '85 GTS build
So got it all buttoned up with new oem toyota rear main, trans input, and trans output shaft seals. New exedy clutchpack (with all the correct bearings :D ), and a flywheel installed, plus new Toyota oem transmission mount. Replacing all the stuff I did helped alot and feels smoother over all. The b...

Oh she's leaking alright, lol. I just thought maybe the "proper" way to do the seal carrier, is to do the oil pan at the same time. Guess I'll figure it out.

Re: '85 GTS build
There seems to be quite a few people that have had their OEM Ujoints replaced before. I'm guessing some shops are used to seeing these types of things and know how to workaround "non serviceable" U joints. I wont have time till the weekend to actually walk in to a shop, but I'll try some E...

Oil pan/ Rear main seal question
I am in the middle of doing a clutch job right now on my hatch. I am really wanting to replace the rear main seal and gasket since i'm in there, but I see that the bottom edge of the piece that holds the seal is the also the sealing surface of the oil pan. I don't have an engine puller and dont real...

Re: '85 GTS build
I was reading that getting the shaft machined to accept serviceable U joints is quite pricey, but no I have not actually called a local shop yet and asked. I would love to go that route most, I'll see about the cost of that service locally and report back.

Re: Warning that the Exedy clutch for the AE86 isn't right
So i'm noticing the Pilot bearing is a bit larger than the one I pulled out of my car. I've been Emailing Exedy, and they say that "6201RS or PB024" is what they show for the GTS. And that a smaller bearing is used for the NON gts RWD model. So what's going on here? do I have some early mo...

Re: '85 GTS build
Slow progress, but it's getting there. Got some new (to me :D ) tires and a much needed alignment. Also got a new battery from costco, and I'm now in the middle of doing my clutch. I had bought an extra t50 a while back and was hoping to swap it out while doing my clutch, but turns out Its not the s...

Re: Warning that the Exedy clutch for the AE86 isn't right
I Emailed Exedy, got an immeadiate response from a Bill Garret. He asked for the usual part number label, and invoice receipt. He was surprised this is still happening, but didn't give me a hard time at all. So Yoshi, you are correct, but I guess there are still some random ones out there that have ...

Re: Warning that the Exedy clutch for the AE86 isn't right
So i ordered up a16029 clutch kit, and there is only one set of bearings. I'm guessing the only way I get an updated kit is to order from exedy or matrix? You guys think exedy would send me one if i emailed them? Ordered this on Amazon prime so returning it is no problem, just really wanted to get i...

WTB: AE86 Door/Trunk lock and keyset
My car came with solex locks in the doors, a bolt blocking off the trunk keyhole, and only one key that went to the ignition. I am still considering getting another set of Solex locks, but wanted to see what you guys might have in the way of something OEM. I see the ones on Ebay from singapore too, ...
