Good call but no. Only the side with the shorter rod end is a problem. As soon as I get time I will measure the rack lengths.

Re: Steering rack woes

So I tried the shorter tie rod on one end of the rack and it does not appear to allow enough articulation at full droop, the problem is with the ball and socket rather than the actual length. Aside from being difficult to fit the outer tie rod to the steering arm the steering binds at full extension...

Re: Steering rack woes

Well thank you both for the confirmation and a fast accurate post. I have a manual steering rack and I will measure the rack length and compare it to the Zenki P/S rack. Assumming that the crossmember LCA bolt holes are the same on P/S and manual, a difference in rack bar length may have been adjust...

Steering rack woes

I'm looking for confirmation on inner tie rod ends for an early power steering rack, as I understand it there are different part numbers side to side for the early racks. I have a selection of tie rod ends and interestingly one of the ends is slightly shorter in the body where the ball goes and I wo...

Re: Carbed high comp 16v build

Expect maximum power to be about the same for either engine, 140 - 160hp
The smallport will probably produce a better torque curve.

Re: Clutch pedal out but car wont move

Very odd indeed. You may have missed the pilot bearing that sits in the end of the crankshaft on an AE86, the MR2's don't have this bearing. It is there to support the gearbox input shaft. I doubt it would be the cause of your particular problem unless the input shaft needle bearings are particularl...

Re: AE86 ride height adjustment

Well thank you Mr Deuce Cam ! My car is restricted power wise by regulation, basically needing to use a stock engine which means to be competitive I have to get the very most out of the handling and grip. My next legal modification will be to lower the rear roll centre by lowereing the Panhard rod o...

Re: AE86 ride height adjustment

Fully understand the fundage thing ! For now then you may be best to set the ride height as a percentage of stock height. The factory service manual shows where and how to measure heights front and rear, it also gives you the measurement. If you set yours as a percentage you will at least be in the ...

Re: AE86 ride height adjustment

Adding height and spring rate adjustable dampers without corner weighting them is like building a race engine without tuning it on a dyno. Getting the correct ride height front to rear is also very important, take care to get the roll centres somewhere close to stock as this is a good starting point...

Re: AE86 ride height adjustment

Changing the height on one side also changes the height (in the same direction) on the other side. Measure from the centre of the track control arm inner pivot bolt to the ground as per the factory service manual. Don't assume the spring rates are exactly the same each side. Make sure that the sprin...

Re: Fortune Auto Coilovers Review 2017

Softer springs and stiffer anti roll bars (sway bars) are probably the way forward, stiff springs do not a lot in a straight line but they help to reduce body roll in the corners, anti roll bars do the same but allow better compliance when going straight (if used with softer springs) At some point I...

Re: Fortune Auto Coilovers Review 2017

7k might be a little high but I think it comes down to what else you are running, I.E. how "stiff" you are. I usually run OEM bushings and I don't do metal joints, spherical, or whatever other track oriented bushing/joint ideas people come up with. I don't have strut tower or tie bars yet...

Re: Fortune Auto Coilovers Review 2017

That being said, 8/6k rates are just insane on this chassis. One will need serious tires to get the most out of it. Problem is rates that stiff and tires that sticky will put some major stress on this tin can of a chassis. Either on their own nis bad enough, but both together.. contorted unibody ov...

What problem are you having that you need to know the correct lengths? I have a stock PS rack with the correct rod ends and an AW11 MS rack with aftermarket ends but I also have the stock MS ends. What are you trying to accomplish? Having the correct distance between the joints is crucial to gettin...

the back two where at 125psi and fronts were 250 Maybe I'm missing something here but the problem appears to be a difference in cylinder pressures rather than them being too high. Re: help with my high compression 16v!!!!!

smoke comes from dipstick tube and from valve cover breather If this is obvious smoke and only after a short time of running it would suggest a piston and/or piston ring problem. Changing valve clearances has the same effect as changing the cam timing and a reason why it is essential to have all cy...

Re: Engine won't fire until I stop cranking? (Timing Issue?)

The distributor in question is fully mechanical, the sensor is simply a trigger for the coil and replaced the unreliable 'points' type trigger. I agree with the above statement about fixing the advance, trying to get the correct advance curve for a particular engine using springs is a complete PITA ...
